People adapt. Staff sometimes have to do what is best for the servers rather than what people arbitrarily want. That's the essence of big competitive games like Call of Duty, League, Dota, etc. The game is highly tuned to make the experience as balanced and fair as possible. If the fishing rod were taken out, people would get used to it and life will go on, and most likely with a more balanced experience to boot.

TL;DR: Well kill me for suggesting the game be more balanced. I'm obviously full of crap

I've often (not too often on here, but ah well) pointed out the difference between two really popular games: SSB Brawl and SSB Melee. While in Melee people kept finding new things, in Brawl they simply didn't, because these things (often small glitches) were removed from the game. That's why I'd like to keep the rod and for example the fence of desperation as well, since it adds something to learn and improve in to the game for people who have been here for a while, making them stay here, instead of moving to other games.

Damn guys calm down. This was never meant to be a place for insults.

And actually, just no. To this entire statement. I've been here since April 2012, and I am a very experienced player with a lot of wins. I'm not saying I'm insane or anything, but I know what I'm doing. Mastering one little aspect does not make you "good" at all. I flat out refuse to use the fishing rod because I disagree with its effect on the gameplay. Take your uneducated statements elsewhere, please.
Ok. Firstly, that was in no way an insul, and certainly not uneducated. Secondly, some people are really bad at the bow (I was somewhere in 2012), but people don't ask for it to be removed. Also, learning one tactic can make you great. An amazing fishing rod user can defeat someone with way better stuff. Fishing rods can stop water fights as teams can use them to their advantage, and the fishing rod can be used as well in water as it is on land, with the same knockback. You the first person I've seen complain about it, so I suppose that you are solo in this battle.

EDIT: Out of interest, how many wins do you consider a lot, and oh does a 1/8 win/loss ratio make you a great PvP'er? You have a long way to go before you can say that matey.

Removing it would be stupid.. but working on the glitch might be helpful.

The fishing rod was never intended to be a weapon, unlike FnS, and bow.

I personally would say No to it being removed, but I would like to see it harder to obtain.
I think it's provides a huge advantage, therefore, instead of removing it completely, just reduce the chance of finding it in a chest, and make it be in tier 2's like FnS.

It's kinda OP.
  • Infinite uses
  • Common, and in tier 1's
  • Gives a big advantage in fights
  • Can get you levels for enchanting
  • Can get you pretty much infinite food If you use it right.

Looking at all that, it's probably the most OP items.
Therefore, instead of removing them alltogether, I would suggest having them in tier 2's.

Infinite 1 bar terrible saturation food, very OP.

I actually don't think this would be a good idea, since already OP chestroutes would now contain fishing rods as well, besides all the other stuff. If I ever take an OP chestroute on a map, I usually find myself having no fishing rods because I prioritized Tier 2s over Tier 1s. Having to look for a rod or kill someone who has one is something that balances the game: a good player can lose his route but find a rod in a Tier 1, therefore getting another chance of getting back into the game. If you would only have rods in T2s, the unlucky player would have to find T2s in order to get back into the game. I think T1s and T2s are unbalanced right now, but I think it would be even worse of they removed rods from T1s and put them in T2s.

Still food, and with all the other things, yes, it is the most OP thing in chests.
And you can cook fish

I get what you mean, but you're saying that someone can open a tier one, and be back with a chance of winning. That isn't what tier 1's were meant for. Tier ones are supposed to contain items not as good as tier 2, but be more common.
Therefore, if you think that if someone has a fishing rod, they stand a chance of winning the game, then an item like that should be in a tier 2.
Now, I know you said it would make OP routes even more OP but, there are always tier ones that havn't been looted to get, and I never find it an issue to get them, and if they were in tier 2's, that means when someone opens a tier 2, there will be one less item in it, if you get what I mean.

Example:
Tier 2 without fishing rod.
  • Gold chesplate
  • Iron boots
  • Stone sword
Tier 2 with fishing rod
  • Gold chestplate
  • Iron sword
  • Fishing rod
Now, that was just an example but what I'm trying to say is, if fishing rods were in tier 2's there would be one less item in the chest, therefore not making chest routes more OP.

Can I be the first to say this? lakerfuffle, I thought, did a very good job of posing an argument and stating his opinion. Who cares if we don't agree. We can state our opinions, but at least can we not go around trashing each other.

I'm glad this was a proper proposal, because otherwise we'd be running into the more common ones, such as: pls remov fishin rod becos its op and ppl make me die, this is rrelly dumb!!!111!!!!!!!1
