It's a tough issue really. I assume the main reason that staff see the contributions of a VIP to the servers are greater than those of a normal player. Permanently banning/ 7 day banning of a player who can bring in 50+ new members a video (in tomahawks case like 1,000) that banning them only hurts the servers. I understand the frustration, but a pyramid system is what it is.

Let's look at a real world example: when a celebrity or athlete commits a crime, it gets covered a lot more than if a normal person did. I have seen it happen before, these people get reduced sentences even when all evidence points the other direction.

It's really stupid and I completely agree with you Mooclan.

Actually, I strongly disagree. Well it's not FAIR that VIPs don't get banned for doing what we do to get banned, it's is neccasary. If they were to have banned GoldElipse for that, MCSG would have lost thousands of players. I agree it's not fair, but life isn't fair. I hope you can get at what I'm saying, for example, say Huahwi came back and played for a while, then said "I hack". Now if they muted him, not much would happen. If they banned him, they would lose thousands of players. I mean, it's bad that it has to work that way, but it just does.

Mooclan I really think you need to realize that you can judge us on our decisions with not knowing all of the facts we put on the table. Gold's VIP was removed by him stating that today. I assume you can see on his twitter, he isn't taking it so well.

I had read that GoldEllipse's situation was being handled further, and I am glad to hear that.
I'd like to point out that I was, and still am, looking for more facts. I contacted a Moderator on TeamSpeak and discussed the situation with him, but I also know that he did not have all of the details.

I created this thread due to someone else's thread on this topic being moved to Staff Discussions, and I wanted to have this discussed further.
This thread is not only to discuss GoldEllipse's situation - rather, what happened with him was simply the catalyst used to start this discussion. I'm interested in seeing how the community and staff view the rule, Gold's situation, and related subjects.

If you refer to this part of the OP:
Mooclan said:
While this is probably not the case, that's how it is interpreted, and that's what it seems like to us regular players.
When a VIP breaks a clear rule and receives a lesser punishment, how do you expect us players to react? Obviously, we're going to be outraged, unless we're all fans of that specific VIP.)
I suppose I was not exactly clear in my meaning, but essentially I was trying to convey the message that I do understand that there's more that goes on than what us players are privy to, and that we, much less I myself, have all of the details and information needed to make an entirely accurate conclusion.

I appreciate you, the staff, and Rusty coming onto this thread and what happened.
While I'm at it, I'd like to also mention that I'm not calling for a change of the VIP rule, but I did want to see what the forum community thought. In addition, I was slightly ticked off at the time that the original thread got moved to Staff Discussions with very little time for discussion.

After a quick look at the VIP application process (vip.mcgamer.info), I noticed that under the "VIP Perks" section, it fails to mention anything about VIP rule-breaking cases being handled by senior+ staff.

I believe it is a rule not to disrespect MCGamer, MCSG, or their staff. He raged over a 1-hour mute, when any regular player would have been banned for a WEEK.
Does he really seem mature to you, and worthy of the VIP rank? I think not. Don't let your fanboy-ness cloud your ability to make decisions and judgements for yourself.

His VIP was removed for admitting to hacks shortly after he was complaining about the amount of hackers on MCSG on Twitter. The events are obviously related xD

I find it stupid that all these problems always start about the over abundance of hackers, but in the end it always goes off topic, VIPs lose ranks, people get banned, drama starts, and those hackers get away with it.

The hackers are the main problem, can we just deal with that first?

Yes, obviously...

A Developer was the one that muted him.
In the screenshot shown, there was only a single message by him - the one in which he (jokingly) said that he was a hacker.

The principle here isn't that he admitted to hacks - we know he's not a hacker, and that's why he's not banned.
However, he DIRECTLY violated a rule by admitting to hacking. He was not serious, but then again other people have been banned for a full week (In some cases, permanently!) for saying a similar phrase, even to their friends or when they were being sarcastic.
It would be completely unfair if he got away without any sort of punishment.

He's a person who's been playing MCSG for quite some time. He's not at all new to the game, and he has obviously read the rules. He was aware that there is a rule against hacking, and he is also aware that he broke a rule.

I really don't get what you're trying to debate here. Nothing you say is going to get his VIP rank back, just be glad that he's not banned for a week. It's not like I want him to not have his rank - I don't know the guy, and I have nothing against him. However, I do have something against people who break MCSG's rules. In this case, that's GoldEllipse.

I don't think you quite understand my viewpoint. Gold was at first muted for an hour with that evidence. Like an hour ago, he went on his Twitter saying stuff like "70% of MCSG's community are hackers" and "H!ve is a trillion times better". His VIP was removed shortly after with the same evidence as his mute.

I agree with your viewpoint of VIPs receiving special treatment. The issue here is that Gold would've most likely kept his VIP if he didn't rant on his Twitter, which shows the bias and limitation of free speech that MCSG imposes.

Oh, well if we're going onto the topic of how MCSG restricts speech and bias... well, I could write a few pages on that.
#1 reason I don't apply for Mod right now.
