I wouldn't really consider it an "award." It's more of a recognition, like a medal.

Yeah, but I think they should get some kind of reward for making a map... Nothing too extreme but something special that separates them from an everyday player.

I think the VIPs for map making should just be given Friend rank for now (well at least the non-leaders, I think the leaders do deserve VIP) as the implementing of the Map Maker rank seems far in the future. Unless of course Friend rank is supposed to only be for ex-staff.

But, this still requires a new rank to be created... And a word from the devs say its not high on their priority list, nor is it easy to make a new rank! + were out of colors to use ! If you can discover a solution that does not involve creating a new rank, Id love to hear it! Im on your side of the issue, dont get me wrong...

On the colour front, minecraft chat can only display a very limited number of colours. White is the default, and other than that there is:
Black - No rank used (but barely visible in chat)
Dark Blue - Not sure if rank used
Dark Green - Player
Dark Aqua - Possibility (Unless rank used)
Dark Red - Higher staff members
Purple - Le VIP
Orange - Gold donor
Grey - No rank used (Dull and difficult to see)
Dark Grey - No rank used (Dull and hard to see)
Indigo - No rank used (Seems to be good option)
Bright Green - No rank used (Also good option)
Aqua - Diamond donor
Red - Moderator
Pink - Friend
Yellow - No rank used (Also possibility)

I was just thinking. The fact that map makers even get a rank, will uncontrollably lower the quality of maps being reduced. Sure, it'll get more maps made, but strictly because people want VIP. In turn, the passionate map makers, the people who are very talented and LOVE doing what they do have a smaller place in the map making business.
