Hello tributes,

Earlier this week, we brought you an update of various things that we intend to release in the short-term. One of these was the process of adopting Minecraft 1.8. The time has arrived, and we're here to give the time frames in which we will be completing this process. The details of this process are explained below, but for the weary of text, the short answer is that we plan to complete this process on

3 February 2015— between 05:00-09:00 UTC / 00:00-04:00 EST.

This is the maintenance period during which we will be finishing updating, after which the MCGamer Network will be entirely running Minecraft 1.8.

Earlier this month, we announced that Thursday 29 January 2015 will mark our end of support for Minecraft 1.7 clients. On and after this date, we will be making the necessary infrastructure changes to officially adopt the Minecraft 1.8 server. While this does not necessarily mean that these changes will immediately be in effect on the 29th, we strongly encourage players to begin using, or prepare to begin using, Minecraft 1.8 for their general play. Plenty of players have, in fact, based on client version data that we have been collecting recently, a majority of players are already using 1.8.
As mentioned, today marked the End of Support for Minecraft 1.7; the process of updating our infrastructure to prepare to switch our systems over to using 1.8 started today. While these changes are not immediately visible to the public, they are to ensure that everything is prepared for 1.8, as well as taking the opportunity to triple check our systems as they relate to other recently announced Mojang updates, like name changes.

End of Support? But I can still log in with 1.7!

Indeed you can; until we finish the process by actually updating the Minecraft servers to their 1.8 version, you will still be able to connect with both 1.7 and 1.8 clients. We have chosen a 4-hour window starting 05:00 UTC / 00:00 EST on the 3rd of February for when we will finish this process, as it is after the weekend and directly follows another (not directly related) maintenance period that is planned for performing physical maintenance on our U.S. hardware.

Between now and then, we will be finishing up preparing for this update. If we deem it necessary or beneficial, we may open a separate test region of our network to the public for testing on our Minecraft 1.8 platform, to make any final changes and iron out any final bugs. Stay tuned to the typical social media to be notified if/when we open this.

With 1.8 will come plenty of bugfixes and optimizations, but also new features, ranging from having a fully integrated spectator mode when spectating games— with the ability to view directly from another player's viewpoint— to new hub effects and pets designed with new 1.8-specific content.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Looking forward to the updates!

EDIT: Also, you specified a 4-hour time near the top. Information under the "End of Support? But I can still log in with 1.7!" heading indicates a 2-hour window.
