If you think you can do it, go for it! Obviously you'll need to gain knowledge and experience first.

I've always wanted to get into programming, especially Java. I tried a couple of times but never had the motivation nor commitment to stick at it. I've just started learning Visual Basic in my IT class, so maybe that will inspire me to learn more programming languages in the future. I've got a Raspberry Pi, so maybe I could learn Python :)

For those who didn't understand Forairan post on page 1 (too lazy to quote :p), here's a simple explanation:

JavaScript is mainly used for websites
Java is mainly used for programs, e.g. Minecraft, Bukkit

Also protip, JavaScript won't help you. JavaScript and Java are two different languages, and if you tell any Java developer otherwise, they will go into a large debate (JavaScript is dynamically typed while Java is statically typed, JavaScript is interpreted while Java is compiled into bytecode and executed by the JVM, etc).
