Optifine. Hack or no hack?

I would call this "grey area". It is something other than vanilla but not much of a character performance.

Ok. I needed to know that cuz someone told me that you and other admins consider Optifine as a hack. )

Exactly it doesn't actually give you any advantage, the only thing really is see a little better detail of about 20 blocks away, it's not giving you the ability to see beyond your own render distance at all.
Although I still only use it when I'm spectating

The zoom function is really pretty useless, aside from finding your allies at the start, besides a lot of people need optifine to even play, its not really fair to take away something that lets them play without as much lag.

with the zoom you can just see what people are holding from a distance like a dimond sword but i use it and its helpfull for me to play and like 90% people use it so

Since a number of people need optifine to be able to play on big servers, it isn't something that is really ban-able.

So yeah, zoom is a bit cheaty, but optifine isn't a "hack".
