I thought it would be fun for some of you who have not yet entered college to take a short test over some of the courses that I have taken in my past 1 and a 1/2 at college. In no way does this test signify your intelligence as these are courses specific to my major and my career (Biology). There might be a few (or a lot) of questions that you are completely unable to answer the question, but I thought this might provide insight on the most basic topics you might learn in college. These will be extremely simple questions one might learn at the beginning of each course. Try your best not to use Google. Let us begin:

1) What is the derivative of 5x^2 + 3x - 7?

2) What is the antiderivative of x?

3) Who is Zeus' wife in Greek mythology?

4) How many grams of oxygen are in 1.5 moles of oxygen(O)?

5) How many valence electrons are in Nitrogen?

6) What is the common name for this polyatomic molecule: SO4 with a -2 charge?

7) What is the acceleration due to gravity on earth?

8) What is the speed of light?

9) If you dropped a ball from a building 100 meters tall, how long would it take for the ball to hit the ground?

10) Which cell organelle is known as the "powerhouse" which provides energy for the organism?

11) If G (green eyes) is autosomal dominant and g is autosomal recessive (brown eyes), what is the probability that a child is born with green eyes if the parents are Gg and gg?

12) Approximately how old is the earth?

13) What is the probability of rolling a die three times and landing on 1 all three times?

14) What is the mean, median, range, and standard deviation of 11, 15, 12, 17, 17, 13?

15) Which atom is more electronegative: C, N, O, S, Br, F?

16) Which molecules are polar: H20, CH4, CO2, HCl?

17) What are the names of these compounds: CH4, CH3CH3, CH3CH2CH3?

18) How many U.S. senators are there in each state?

19) What are the three branches of the U.S. government?

20) What or who is the supreme law of the land in the U.S.?

21) What are the reactants and products of the photosynthesis reaction?

10) mitochondria
11) 1/2
12) 5 billion years old
13) 1/216
14) mean: 14.17 median: 14 range: 6 standard dev: 2.34

I was expecting this to be a bit more on people's opinions, then I saw the test and got a bad score :p

See, the thing about college is, it's not high school! You don't study that crap that you know you'll never use! You choose your classes. If you're half brain-dead when it comes to math like me, if you play your cards right, you'll never see it again.

Tried it, I think I got 15 or 16/20. I'd post my 'test', but I don't know if these forums have spoilers or not.

Welp.
Good thing I'm doing an IT course. Because Chemistry and Mathematics most certainly are not my strong points :p

It was pretty Chemistry and Biology heavy so if you haven't taken those classes then this test wasn't fair for you xD

Sadly, this is untrue :/ You have to take 42 hours(at least at my university) that will have nothing to do with what you want to do. They are called CORE classes. They are really stupid, and I could already have my degree in Biology if I didn't have to take them :( Like I need to know who Zeus' wife was or how we might become emotionally attached to robots (this one was a fun class but completely worthless for what I want to do)... I feel like these CORE classes hinder one's progression for a degree.

I have posted the answers if you would like to check your answers :)

Haha xD I took one IT course, and if I wasn't so far into my degree plan already, I would probably start doing IT courses :p

I'll just mark them all with the answer "Yes." it's bound to get 1 or 2 marks maybe.
There are no yes or no answers haha There are 5 answers that are between 0 and 10, though!

15/20. Got none of the government ones (we don't learn much about the US here in Austraila), had no idea who Zeus' wife was, and had 3 for 5) (I was thinking of charge, derp)

Although, shouldn't 2) be (1/2)x^2 + c? :p

I only got one right '_'
Well, if you aren't at least a sophomore in high school, I wouldn't expect you to get much haha

If you want to get technical, yes xD I only care about c when you actually have to find out what it is :p

Yes! Great correction haha There is definitely different acceleration due to gravity when looking at other planets. I am not a big physics buff :p

1 mole of oxygen is 32grams. So 1.5 is 48 grams where's 24 coming from.
