Hi there!
I was just thinking of MCSG, and the upcoming Minecon 2013, and I thought "Has MCSG had its own convention yet?"
I haven't seen anything about one, and if I have, then I've forgotten about it.
After a little bit of speculation, I found a place that might be willing to host a convention, but they aren't sure that people would really want to go to it.
It's in South Florida, like Minecon 2013. Although it's actually quite a bit farther south than Orlando... Key West.

So to convince them to let us use their facilities for a convention, I have to ask you guys some questions:
1. Would you, as an MCSG player, want to attend an MCSG Convention?
2. Would you be OK with it being mainly outdoors?
3. Based on your personal opinions, how many people do you think we could get to attend?
4. What size facility do you think we might need?
5. What would you like to see at an MCSG Convention?
6. Do you think an MCSG Convention could actually happen?
7. Would Chad attend? :3
8. What range of ticket prices would be suitable?
9. What general time would be good for a convention? (Season/Month?)
10. Any other thoughts?

Please keep criticism constructive. It was just a wild idea that I had. No matter where or when, I think it'd be a cool idea to see an MCSG Convention. If we don't end up using the place I mentioned -

11. Where would be a good place to have an MCSG Convention?
12. Do you think Chad might approve of a convention?
13. Anything else? I'm out of questions for now. Do you have any questions that might be good to ask?

Thank you, in advance, for saying what you have to say. c:

I don't really think a video game would be worth the flight cost plus hotel fees, so no I wouldn't attend.

I live in Florida, except a drive to the Keys takes about 8 hours. (It's worth it though - it's beautiful in the Keys)

Ima reply to your questions one by one.

1. Would you, as an MCSG player, want to attend an MCSG Convention?
Heck yea! I would love to! But I probably wouldn't be able to go if it were ages away..

2. Would you be OK with it being mainly outdoors?
Only if someone has a ChadCam (and by someone I mean Chad, duh)

3. Based on your personal opinions, how many people do you think we could get to attend?
I'm not sure on this one, I would love to come myself but wouldn't be able to make it if it were halfway across the world. However, having it in America is the best Idea because it's where most players live.

4. What size facility do you think we might need?

5. What would you like to see at an MCSG Convention?
Chad, The Staff, epic MCSGer's, new maps, fun games.

6. Do you think an MCSG Convention could actually happen?
Depends how many people like the idea. Plus, if you take into account that most of the players of MCSG are under 16, then there might be a problem.

7. Would Chad attend? :3
Hopefully.

8. What range of ticket prices would be suitable?
Not much, you should make them cheap but affordable, like in the £10-£30 range (around $15 - $50)

9. What general time would be good for a convention? (Season/Month?)
Next Spring half term (for british people). Unless it's indoors, in which case you would have to check when schools around the world are on holiday and make it at the end of this year.

10. Any other thoughts?
No really, I think I've covered everything

11. Where would be a good place to have an MCSG Convention?
For myself I would say the UK/Wales. However, America is a good place to go for.

12. Do you think Chad might approve of a convention?
He'd better.......

13. Anything else? I'm out of questions for now. Do you have any questions that might be good to ask?
Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?

Personally, if a "MCSGcon" was staged somewhere in the middle of the US, Chad and a couple of Admin's and Dev's were there, and a few hundred players were set to go, heck yea I'd be in!
But I wouldn't bother staging in in Florida because this would most likely be an event for most of the people who couldn't make it to Minecon 2013, myself included.
I live in Michigan. I missed out on Minecon 2013 because it would have cost $2000 to go, thus I assume that you would get less people attending in Florida than if you staged it toward the center of the country.
I would probably stage it in Tennessee because that is right in the middle of a large Minecrafter group.
(Also there is a good sized convention center in the middle of Gatlinburg that should do the trick;))

Well, thanks for answering the questions c:
Concerning the issue that many MCSG players are young:
Well, when you see Minecon, you notice that there's a ton of families attending. Parents bring their younger children. But MCSG is a PVP-themed thing, so parents might be slightly less inclined to bring their kids. This could be both positive and negative: There would be less people, but those who attend would either be old enough to know how to act responsibly, or would have earned their parents' trust (And thus are more mature, generally)
However, if the issue is gathering enough participants, then this could be bad.

Many people have Spring Break at different times. Summer Break can be good, as most people have it at the same general time. Winter Break can also be good, as Southern Hemisphere players are on Summer Break (I think?) and a lot of people in the USA and EU have winter break.

As for price range, I agree on the cheap tickets. Whoever hosts the Convention would need enough to cover the cost of renting the actual facilities themselves, but perhaps they could rent out things like booths where people could sell merchandise or something, as well as selling T-Shirts and MCSG-related items like foam swords or something. Group Discounts for those who buy tickets in large batches would be good, too.

Personally, if a "MCSGcon" was staged somewhere in the middle of the US, Chad and a couple of Admin's and Dev's were there, and a few hundred players were set to go, heck yea I'd be in!

Yes, that too. Since Minecon was on the East Coast, somewhere in central or western USA would be good. However, organizing a large event could take quite a while - Summer Break is ending for many people, Winter Break would be the soonest opportunity based on what I said above. It's now September, and Winter Break is in.. three months?
If I recall correctly, Minecon tickets went on sale in very early August. That's 3 or 4 months before Minecon itself, in November (I haven't checked, please excuse my laziness xD). With that said, any convention takes months of planning. Personally, I doubt that it'd be this winter. So let's say next summer, 2014. Since this Minecon is on the East Coast, will the next one be on the West Coast? In Europe? Or somewhere else? If it's on the West Coast, then perhaps the East Coast or Europe could be OK. If it's in Europe, then Central or West Coast would be best. By now I'm rambling and have nearly forgotten what I'm typing about, so I'll end it here (hehe)

Every single word in this paragraph I agree with.
