MCSG at its prime

The MCGamer update of June 2013 was probably the best thing that happened to MCSG. We increased so much in size by localizing all of our gamemodes and making everything easy to access. I personally dislike the name 'MCGamer' and think of it as a bit corny (if you think about it, it's just Minecraft Gamer Network) but the overall update was the best. The hub at the time was beautiful, the clan scene was booming, things were so simple yet so much fun back then :)

These were the days when everyone had one, two alt accounts max and there was like... a system and way of playing we had. Your main account was used most of the time, and for clan activities, then everyone tryharded for ratio on their alt account. Things were just so cool and so much fun. Not to mention, all of the legendary forumers were still around and active, like RC, Half, Arena, Mami, 4non, Shaun, Zeno, Vebbi, toby, darkrai, etc.

I miss June-December 2013 so much. And this was back in the day when Tomahawk was a big hit, and everyone used R3D Craft because he used it. I tried so hard to get my computer to run shaders at the time because Tomahawk used it and his videos looked so awesome.
Agreed

I don't know the time exactly but there was that massive sky hub (not the current one) and when you joined a game you were put into the lobby games lobby. That was when the clan scene was at its prime and i have been apart of the clan scene for so long and nothing was more fun on this server then beating all the best clans in #Fade. 30 something wins 0 loss Number 1 Au clan.

Mcsg was at its best around the time between when breeze island/sg4 were released, up until after valleyside and holiday resort were released.

Summer of 2014 was the best. Reflection and United were both so fun. Clan back then were actually alive, DDOS was abused though but it was overall really fun.

MCSGv1 and Summer of 2014

My personal favorite time of MCSG was within the first few months of April 2012. Back in those days, there was only one map we could play and the number of servers was severely limited. I enjoyed this phase so much because it wasn't required to add someone on Skype or get out of your way to play with them. The community was so close-knit that it wasn't rare to find people you knew in multiple games without really searching for them. Joining servers with someone else was also a lot easier to do.

I think the main reason why I enjoyed this time period so much was not because of the community; rather, the game itself. Those hour-long games were damn exciting. It was really difficult for me to even survive, let alone actually get gear! I would scrounge every resource I could find and never let anything go to waste. Survival Games 1 felt like a massive death arena in my perspective. I would venture out into the distance, and never know where I was going or how to get back. I was always lost. It felt a lot more like the Hunger Games I knew and loved from the book series.

I didn't care if I won or lost. I cherished the small victories; surviving past refill, getting my hands on some armor, killing another tribute and not starving to death were just a few of them. The friends that I had acquired along the way only compounded the experience I enjoyed so much.

Most people are mentioning that the best time in MCSG's history was 2013-2014. However, I took many hiatuses around that time so I never immersed myself in all of the great things that came around that time. When I played around that time, I managed to win my first game. It was exhilarating. Analogous to someone wanting to reach that high again, I became competitive. This competitiveness led to the downfall of my enjoyment. I was/am also very shy, so I didn't interact with other people very much outside of text.
