Seems like you misunderstood me. That was a hypothetical situation.

If VIPs were exempt from the "no swearing" rule, there'd have to be some leniency for accidental cussing in public chats; it's an easy mistake to make. Many a time have mods gotten away with swearing in public channels, either by claiming it didn't happen or was an accident.
They wouldn't be completely exempt from the rules. A VIP/Map Maker isn't allowed to swear in a public channel just like any other member, just because it has to be higher up staff that eventually deals with them. The truth is, the VIP and mapmaker channels aren't really public at all, they're very exclusive and a large majority of the people that use them are mature enough to be able to hear the occasional swear word.

As for leniency of normal members swearing in normal chats, I'd say warning them not to do it again is lenient enough - I don't know if that's changed now, but it's certainly what I used to do. And with the mods accidentally swearing in a public channel thing, I guess they could be reported, and the truth probably is that not much would be done if anything at all. But I'm not going to argue for that because the truth is I don't care. I'm not a staff member anymore and also I have no idea how the new Sr staff handle it all.

What I mean is that if VIPs were in fact allowed to swear in VIP channels, there would need to be some leniency if they swore in a public channel. It would be an easy mistake for them to think that they were in a VIP lounge.

Tbh most already swear in them when no staff are there. It is just when the mods join that our friends, it's hard for us not to, and then the mods get uncomfortable with the swearing in that channel, then end up making a custom channel or moving us to the mod chats so everyone can swear.

The majority of us VIP/Map Makers know when and when not to swear. Most of us are mature enough to know when there are younger people in the channels, and we should all understand the rules of the public channels anyway. I know if someone does, they usually just end up saying sorry right away. Also most of us don't leave the VIP channels, for many reasons, trollers, some people aren't as mature as us, comfort, etc.

I just don't think it's right that VIP channels should be classed as private, but not premium chats. There a lot less VIPs/Map-Makers, but that doesn't really make them more mature.

To be honest though, I've never actually encountered anyone on TS who's been offended by swearing.

I have been offended, just because of how it is said, cause the few times I've been offended, they were abusing me, and I mean a lot more than just calling me names. I don't want to get into it cause it is not appropriate to even try to tell on the forums. I will say, that it only happened a few times and at those times I felt sorry for them, and just couldn't believe that some people in this community can be just so disrespectful, not just to me, not just to women, just in general. What they were saying, was disgusting, wrong, and just cringe worthy. All of this happened way before I was this rank so.

Also I find the people in vip channels(at least the people I talk to) more mature than if I join in a random premium channel, half of them are under 16, or most, and even them are just cursing each other out, or at someone, at a hacker, just being rude in general. I completely understand that they are young though, and will mature at some point in their lives.

Kinda different though. I'm just talking about "casual" swearing, not hate speech. Of course, that shouldn't be allowed.

What you said about premium chats, isn't that sorta the same situation as you talked about in your last post about people swearing in VIP lounges anyway? Also, age != maturity.

I think if someone gets offended by casual swearing, they should just leave the channel. Anything more serious should be punishable though.

That's just my opinion on it.

I guess. To be completely honest, when I was a moderator I didn't take any personal offence to people swearing and still don't unless it's meant in a hostile way. (I'd say casual swearing would be fine for any channel, but I'm not the one calling the shots). I still had to deal with them though, because they were the rules and couldn't see them changing - I still can't. I just think there's enough of a reason there to change the rules for the VIP/Map Maker lounges because of pretty much all the rationale already raised on the thread.

Most of this reasoning could be applied to premium and even public chats though. I don't think anyone really cares about casual swearing on the TS. People only get in trouble for it if there's an undercover mod or if someone reports it just to get someone banned, not because they're offended.

I guess allowing swearing in VIP lounges is a step forward, but it seems kinda unfair to everyone else that they're exempted from the rules.

To be quite honest, used to, as a VIP I thought you could swear in VIP/Map Maker channels. I did quite a lot, I didn't see what was wrong with it. Now, I do understand the fact that it is considered a public channel because you do not have to be staff to be in it. So, the rule should be that you can't swear in it. But, I could see maybe that if there is a staff member in the channel at the time who can oversee the use of the swear words that maybe it could be allowed. Seeing as the fact I cannot do anything about this situation, I cannot do anything other than just state my opinion and a compromise suggestion. Have a good day!

This will not be implemented.

VIP/Map-Maker chat's are part of our public channels. As you may or may not know:

3. Do not use derogatory or profane language: There are many members in our community of various ages and words that are not appropriate should not be spoken or seen.
This is part of our general network rules, encompassing all areas of the network. (In-Game, Teamspeak, and Forums)

Whether or not most of our teamspeak users are 'old enough', or our vip/map-makers are in majority 'old enough', this rule will not change.

Now you may wonder, then why can Moderators swear in Mod chats? Simple.
They are not open to the general public. (Everyone besides Staff.)

Keeping our network PG-13 is very important to us, in order to keep it family-friendly. Unless the owner himself decides to change the rules entirely, it will stay this way.

Thread locked. Thank you for the suggestion.
