I personally think it depends on the crime. e.g. if someone robbed a bank, I don't think he should be killed. However, if someone were to kill a bunch of people, I think they should receive the death penalty.
I think it depends on the crime, but I do think it should be legal.

Some people might find it unmercyful... but think about it... sometimes it would be even better to just end it rather than being for their entire life in jail. You dont have to have been in jail to know its not a nice place to spend your life at at all....
It is definitely dependent on the crime/offense,

If you stole a $1000 worth of items from a shop it is not worthy of the Death Penalty, but lets say you walk into the shop, kill everyone inside the shop + two more police officers coming for assistance, it is definitely worthy of it.

Not to insult anyone who agrees with the idea Im about to attack but.... It really disgusts me when people give money as a reason, its all people can think of. Putting some stupid pieces of paper over some persons life, disgusting, if someone is going to die, it should be because of their actions (such as having murdered someone in cold blood) and not for a bunch of damn pieces of paper which its only importance comes from the meaning we give it....

Saving money isn't one of the leading reasons, just an effect that comes from Death Penalties.

I, personally, am pro-death penalty.

We must keep in mind that it a criminal would only be sentenced to the Death Penalty in extreme cases. I don't know what those exact criteria may be, but most likely things like mass murder.

Why am I pro-death penalty?
It's quick. There may be pain, but it would only last for a few seconds at most.
A large reason that some people are anti-death penalty, is the pain factor. "It's immoral". Well, what about the pain they would experience in jail? It may not be a large amount of pain in a single moment, but it's mentally exhausting, hurtful, and can take a toll on the person's physical body.

.....I started writing this post like an hour ago.... I completely lost my train of thought.. ;_;

  • The money that it takes to maintain a jail, and pay for all costs -guards, security, electricity, water, food, and other things- could go to other things. I'm not going to say that it would go to things "more useful", but perhaps more productive. However, this is not my largest concern in this debate, as it has already been emphasized plenty.
  • A person very close (like, I'm talking direct relative-close.) to me was recently imprisoned for around two months in Hong Kong. Their rations? A few rice balls each day, and some not-very-clean water. When they got out on bail, I saw their condition - They had lost easily 20 pounds despite already being a healthy weight before, and their skin was a horrid complexion. They were severely ill, and was having a lot of pain when using the washroom. All of this pain, this suffering, this inhuman treatment that occurs in some jails could be avoided by the death penalty. They were in jail for TWO MONTHS! Imagine what a LIFETIME could do! They were later sentenced to two more years in jail - Just two years! - and they chose to jump bail and flee, rather than face that again. To this day, they are still in hiding, and even I don't know where they are.

....I stopped writing again.... ;__; Oh, heck. 'Nuff said.

Happens to me all the time, I get it xD

But nice post on the topic too... what you said about the effect prison leaves on people is what I mean when sometimes Death Penalty can be more mercyful than lifetime jail.

Then again, of course I mean this depending on the crime. Death penalty for stealing something for example wouldnt be fair.

Why make this kind of thread on a minecraft survival games forum website??
Because this is the off topic section of the forums?

Totally agree with you there, I think the death penalty should only be used for crimes that are pure evil/cold-hearted.

In most cases, I'm against the death penalty.

For me, it's a matter of principle: why stoop to their level? Why kill to show that killing is wrong? For me, it's just not the right thing to do. Keeping someone permanently away from the public is good enough for me. I believe that sooner or later, they'll get true recompense for their actions.

I can only stand behind the death penalty when the person is legitimately too dangerous to keep in jail. If someone is a dangerous criminal who committed terrible crimes and there is danger of him or her escaping or being broken out, then it is the best way to contain the threat they pose.

While I do see your point on stooping to their level, I do not think death penalty would be that. Stooping to their level would be more if, for example someone who murdered by stabbing another person multiple times and left them for dead and then when the death penalty is executed, the criminal gets stabbed and left to die in the same manner. I dont see a quick death for the safety of others and closure of the victim's family as stooping to their level.

I believe it's appropriate in extreme cases, not much else I have to say.
