This is a deep thread for the Minecraft Gamer Network Forums don't you think?
Anyway, I have a lot to write about and I have to go off my computer soon, so I'll work quickly.
Basically, the death penalty is slightly less human but more realistic and the better option for a variety of reasons. May I begin explaining that, just like hackers, people who commit a crime once are more likely to commit a crime again. People who are sex offenders and are let off the hook will almost certainly do it again. People who murder, if let be, will do it again. This is most likely because of mental illness, or because of a sick point that is trying to be proven. None the less, those who do not commit crimes again normally just made a really sick mistake. The question is how to tell them apart?
Obviously there are crimes that should be automatically death penalty. For me, the only one is First degree murder. In case you don't know what that is, I will give you a definition: n, a person is found guilty of
first degree murder when
murder is perpetrated by means of poison, lying in wait, or any other willful, deliberate, and premeditated killing.
Basically, if you think about how you kill someone, and then execute, that's first degree. However, there are other parts to first degree murder, and it should only be this part. The other part is if you are committing a felony and kill someone in the process... i.e. I am robbing a house and kill the homeowner without the intention of doing so but do it none the less.
This kind of killing shows mental insanity; unless you really hate someone, why would you kill them? Even if you do hate them a lot, or for some other reason, not many people would straight up kill them.
I feel that the death penalty itself should only be used in this scenario, for I feel (as evil as it may be) that the protection of others around them are more important the protection of a person evil enough to premeditate and kill someone. Is that the kind of person you want you or your parent's tax dollars paying for? A lifetime in prison is a fair amount of time, and prisons cost a fair amount of money, especially the kind that will be holding this type of such high security criminals.
Not only is the death penalty more cost affective to good citizens, it protects them more from harmful people and removes evil from our world.
Call me sick, or evil if you will, I know how bad my opinion can sound. Sometimes I questioned myself as I wrote this.
Watch this video as it explains my opinion somewhat but more in depth. It also couples with a story of a person that should have faced the death penalty but didn't. If you are a bit squeamish, don't watch it. There is nothing gory, just story telling, but it is a bit of a disgusting story. The man in the news story is a very, very bad person.
