You really can't assume that everyone who posts these threads are overreacting...
Of course, I notice that you used words like "not all people" and "most people". But still, you never know exactly how these people are feeling, you can't assume that they're just seeking attention. Lots of these people are actually doing the opposite, they are releasing something they've kept and stored inside without sharing it. They bottle up all their tension...and find a way to liberate it in hopes of finding assistance . When these "depressed people" post these threads, they are (lots of times) seeking help on a troubling problem from the people and the community that they trust and love. It's only natural for a video game nerd who's feeling down to ask more nerds for support.
Sure, lots of these people are overreacting about whatever problem they're going through. Some are doing it solely to have others pity them, others are overreacting without even knowing. Most of these people are teenagers- we teenagers are notorious for overreacting and thinking our lives are over because of simple problems.
But some of us also feel very strongly for "minor problems".
Say I love my teddy bear. I love him SO MUCH, it would be the end of the world if he was gone. I almost love him as much as my own mother.
The next day, my mom burns it with a flamethrower. He's dead. I would be devastated, extremely sad. Depressed, even.
Then, a kid who has never had a teddy bear or known what it feels to love something so much, hears about my problem. He instantly thinks something like "Wow, what an idiot! He's overreacting over a simple teddy bear. Hahahaha, this kid has no idea what it means to be sad/depressed".
^That kid right there has no idea what he's talking about. How in the hell does he know what I'm going through? That teddy bear was my whole world! I know I feel bad, and I can't shake it off. It makes me sad inside...and it hasn't stopped. Time has passed....and I can't stop thinking of my little teddy bear. I am DEPRESSED.
(Of course I'm kidding on the entire situation about the teddy bear....I'm trying to give a serious and rather controversial topic a happy/comedic side to it)
Basically, don't go around claiming that people are overreacting when you don't know all the facts. YOU NEVER KNOW HOW A PERSON CAN FEEL ABOUT SOMETHING!! Nobody has the right to say that someone is overreacting without going through a similar experience or understanding what they are going through!
Meh, that's my take on the problem. I'll probs edit this out a bit later. Peace.
