Yet in your posts, you tell people to stop posting about their problems because they are annoying.
To be fair they're not really posting their problems most of the time. What they say is so vague and it honestly leaves much left to be known. You have to understand that I can't help it if I find something annoying. It's just a God-given trait. I get that they're trying to "open up", and I see where you're coming from, but this is a forum dedicated to a video game. Not necessarily a fine replacement for the suicide hotline, wouldn't you say?
Yes, in your thread you ask people to stop sharing their struggles on these forums because you don't like going through posts about them. Think about how messed up that is for a second.
Simply repeating myself in the last post, I also think it's a little messed up that kids are going on forums dedicated to video games and randomly telling the whole world they want to commit suicide or that they're "severely depressed".
As for your concern that a large number of these posts are fishing for compliments, how can you prove that?
The proof for this was when members on other forums faked suicides and depressions to get attention and even a member here who faked his own death to get attention. We all know how that went: he got permbanned. Truth be told, why wouldn't the people just PM their friends on skype and personally? There's no benefit to making a thread except now
everyone knows about it and more people can "feel" for you.
What's the point of this story? One of the best things that people in a dark place can do is let it all out. I have seen first hand that their is a power in it; letting your emotions run raw for everyone else.
Generally speaking though people aren't letting anything out. When someone says "I'm depressed" that's hardly what I call "letting out your demons". Millions of teenagers say the same thing, lots of times for no reason. I know that there are the few notable exceptions, but from that point in a true depression counseling really helps. You're not the only one has had a friend with depression, mind you.
As for the argument that "these forums are not a place to share that type of problem", some people literally can't tell anyone else.
They can PM people, they can skype people, they can tell a psychiatrist, they can call a suicide hotline, there's services specifically for reasons like this but you seem to just ignore that fact. If they're not able to "PM their friends" and they're explaining themselves to strangers than what's the difference of calling a suicide hotline? Honestly.
