Yet in your posts, you tell people to stop posting about their problems because they are annoying.
To be fair they're not really posting their problems most of the time. What they say is so vague and it honestly leaves much left to be known. You have to understand that I can't help it if I find something annoying. It's just a God-given trait. I get that they're trying to "open up", and I see where you're coming from, but this is a forum dedicated to a video game. Not necessarily a fine replacement for the suicide hotline, wouldn't you say?
Yes, in your thread you ask people to stop sharing their struggles on these forums because you don't like going through posts about them. Think about how messed up that is for a second.
Simply repeating myself in the last post, I also think it's a little messed up that kids are going on forums dedicated to video games and randomly telling the whole world they want to commit suicide or that they're "severely depressed".
As for your concern that a large number of these posts are fishing for compliments, how can you prove that?
The proof for this was when members on other forums faked suicides and depressions to get attention and even a member here who faked his own death to get attention. We all know how that went: he got permbanned. Truth be told, why wouldn't the people just PM their friends on skype and personally? There's no benefit to making a thread except now everyone knows about it and more people can "feel" for you.
What's the point of this story? One of the best things that people in a dark place can do is let it all out. I have seen first hand that their is a power in it; letting your emotions run raw for everyone else.
Generally speaking though people aren't letting anything out. When someone says "I'm depressed" that's hardly what I call "letting out your demons". Millions of teenagers say the same thing, lots of times for no reason. I know that there are the few notable exceptions, but from that point in a true depression counseling really helps. You're not the only one has had a friend with depression, mind you.
As for the argument that "these forums are not a place to share that type of problem", some people literally can't tell anyone else.
They can PM people, they can skype people, they can tell a psychiatrist, they can call a suicide hotline, there's services specifically for reasons like this but you seem to just ignore that fact. If they're not able to "PM their friends" and they're explaining themselves to strangers than what's the difference of calling a suicide hotline? Honestly.

This is the most recent depression/suicide thread I've seen on the forums, and contrary to your claims he actually is very specific about the problems he's going through. I realize not all threads like this are so detailed, but I think it's good to mention that not all people just say "I'm depressed" in an attempt to get kind words.

The proof for this was when members on other forums faked suicides and depressions to get attention and even a member here who faked his own death to get attention. It's totally unfair to judge an entire group off of one person. We all know EnderHarold messed up, and he got banned accordingly. No people who have made depression threads have been busted like EnderHarold, so it's unfair to say they are faking just because of the mistakes one other person made. The fact of the matter is that you have no proof that people who make depression threads are just trying to get attention.

What if they have no friends? What if they get so nervous about being social that they are scared to talk to a person on a hotline? What if these are the reasons why they are depressed in the first place? Telling their story through a computer may be much easier for them than talking to someone one on one. This is what I meant when I said "some people literally can't tell anyone else".

As a side note, I decided to look up "depressed","depression","suicidal", and "suicide" in the forum search bar. I found only a couple threads about depression and suicide (roughly four or five) made in the past year. So really, I don't think this problem is as big a deal as you make it out to be.

There's no way there have only been four or so "depression" and "suicide" threads in the last year. Do you honestly believe that?
Look, everyone is going to have their own views. You have yours, I have mine. While I respect yours I'll almost always be adamant on mine, so we can argue until the cows come home but that honestly won't get us anywhere.

I'm not going to get involved in the rest of your debate, but I'm am 99% sure that I've seen a lot more threads about suicide and depression than just that. They're often labeled with obscure titles like "I'm done..." or "I can't go on. :c" or maybe something like... uh.. "What do I do?"
Idk.

Edit:

I thought there was more than that too, but when I looked up those key words I only found a few threads.

Yeah, I totally didn't think about this at all. You probably could find a ton more threads if you looked up obscure stuff like this. I guess you're right about the amount of threads being made becoming a problem. omg I just said I'm wrong about something on the internet

So yeah, I guess we still disagree about how to treat these depression threads but at least we had a nice little back and forth debate. Stuff like this is why I stay on these forums.

You know what they always say: YOLO!!!!!!!!! So don't y'all dare commit suicide or have suicide thoughts, just deal with being sad once in a while and remember those happy times that has happened to you.
