Nope. The faces are displayed each night. At the time of death the identity of the fallen is not known, just signified by a single cannon blast. The faces on the dome are the equivalent of the "These tributes have passed" message at refill.

It shows the faces at night. And it tells you who died at night in mcsg. So I am right actually, and mcsg stuck to the book right with this way.

Maybe I'm blind (probably am), but as far as I can see it just says 'a cannon can be heard in the distance: there are (num) players remaining'
and the only way to tell the guy who died is with tab/whoever just left the game. Maybe they could make the person's face appear in the sky like a hologram by setting a bunch of stained glass that's colors match the pixels of the person's face in the sky (the plugin equivalent of /setblock or whatever)!
