Maybe I'm blind (probably am), but as far as I can see it just says 'a cannon can be heard in the distance: there are (num) players remaining'
and the only way to tell the guy who died is with tab/whoever just left the game. Maybe they could make the person's face appear in the sky like a hologram by setting a bunch of stained glass that's colors match the pixels of the person's face in the sky (the plugin equivalent of /setblock or whatever)!

He ment, when the chest are refilled, you also get to see the tributes that have died already

That could be cool, although minecraft has very bad colours.
Plus, making it "read off" the faces of peoples skins would probably be pretty hard

Not really, SethBling already released a MCEdit filter in which you can simply type in the players name (I think, it might require the skin but I don't think so) and then it will create a full player model using the blocks closest in color to the pixels.
