We all know the command /bounty, and now my suggestion is as follows;

Remove /bounty! Going back to the start of v2 the command /bounty was removed, it was added back but that honestly made me think, what's the point of /bounty? Sure if you enjoy keeping your points low then that would be a huge hassle but otherwise I see no need for it to be in the game (Apart from spam-bountying people with 69, but sacrifices have to be made!)

Now, for starters why do I believe that bountying should be removed from MCSG, well if you ask majority of players what they believe bountying means you'll probably get this response.

"Bounty determines a players skill, or a rough estimate of how long they can play without losing"

Going along those lines that is somewhat true, majority of players with a high bounty are generally skilled players although with the addition of bountying this is somewhat untrue. (When bountying wasn't available reaching 10k points was considered godlike! I believe this is how bounty should work)

Of course the responses of this thread will be "Bounty doesn't matter, shut up Darkrai!" but for a second, I'd just like you to think. Assume if points were actually a score, representing something (Without bounty you could generally determine how good a player was by looking at their points) would you like that 'score' to tell the truth, or give a rough estimate of the truth.

Now, this being said I ask for an educated discussion in the comments, I want this to be an actual debatable subject. I'm keen to see the communities thoughts on this idea (Also the devs opinion as they are the ones after all doing all the plugin/coding work for MCSG, as if this was a pain to do whilst other things can be done instead of removing bounty)

I don't think bounty should be removed. In your thread, the only reason bountying could be bad is that it's not a completely true representation of your skill. If you can think of another disadvantage from it, then tell me, but it seems to me like there are very few.

However, the advantages to bountying include being able to get rid of your points easily, and having fun with friends by bountying them. It's also an interesting method of giving friends points, or trying to get someone killed through targeting.

I don't see any reason to remove it, but I don't use it that often so I don't care as much as some people would.

I really enjoy having bounty. It's fun! I enjoy placing massive rewards on my friends heads. It's also fun to find a disjointed text team and place a large bounty on one, then watch them kill each other. We do have /records now if you want to check someone's skill. Even without bounty, points can be misleading as a lucky kill on someone with a lot of points can boost you up or a good player can get targeted a lot.

You see, this isn't necessarily important, merely something I want to debate about and have people consider.

As for your first argument about having few disadvantages I'll merely say this, points or 'score' are generally used as a representative of a skill level (Granted we have wins/ratios, although with that said why not remove points in general? Is there necessarily a reason as to why we have points? Majority of players would see it as a reason to brag about their points in front of their name.

As for advantages, well I really disagree with your points.

1) Getting rid of points

Presumably to stop being targeted correct? If that's the case then I really don't believe that's a major issue, I personally find it another challenge for the game although you may not share my beliefs

2) Having fun with friends by bountying them

"Heueuryeieueueur I bounted 69 points on you, such fun!" Not sure about you but I'd prefer to play the game for fun, bountying friends don't really make MCSG "fun" in my opinion.

3) Make others targeted by putting points on their head

.. I disagree, if you can bounty your points to make you targeted less and to make others a prime target that's just annoying and unfair, although I don't believe this has a huge impact on actual gameplay I felt I may as well reply to it.

Majority of what you said was answered above, one point I'll cover you said though is a "Lucky kill"

A lucky kill is really not going to hugely change points to mislead a players skill compared to bountying, nothing huge but just really a small point in my opinion.

Thanks for replying though, I appreciate it! Cheers :)

I don't have any problem with it. It is fun to bounty your friends and is a good feature. I see you point, but I don't think it is necessary to remove the feature.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you find it fun to bounty friends? Granted a 69 bounty here and there may be funny and all, or a number which has a funny meaning/inside joke. I really find it more fun to be playing in the actual game, having a good laugh while playing or watching and mucking around in-game, typing a command to place a number upon someone's head isn't really a feature which is so entertaining in my opinion. (granted my opinion seems to be different from the majority of the community nowadays :p)

But there still are people that constantly enjoy the bounty feature, so why remove it?

I can understand your point Nick. I miss having people gasp when they saw my 10k points before bounty came out, but it's just there to have fun now and change the game a bit. I really wouldn't mind if it was taken away or not; I'm happy both ways, but I think most people would like it if /bounty stayed.

I don't think the command was meant for people to boost their 'skill' by making their bounty bigger. it was just implemented for people to have fun, and use immature numbers whilst in a Skype call. I think it should stay because it adds a fun aspect to the game, however i can see the point as proven by Kytria above.

A bounty of 69 here and there is not what makes the bounty system so appealing. Bounties are amazing because of the potential to build, to create hilarity far beyond the normal, samey, run of the mill MCSG games. Playing with your friends, it ends up with 3 of you left, hunting down the last couple of guys. Without bounty, this will be a 3-10 minute to find the last remaining players, kill them, organize some 1v1's or an FFA, and finish the game. It is, at least in my opinion, boring.

Now, say one of those bounties of 69 got dropped on one of the heads of one of the team mates. A small laugh, nothing more. But what about when a hundred gets added on? A thousand? Ten thousand. You have never lived until you have played a game with a 55,000 bounty on your head, where literally every other player will team on you to get it. Points may not mean much, indeed, they mean next to nothing, but the /bounty command opens up the doors for hilarity completely unmatched by the regular, every day game of MCSG, and I would hate to see it removed purely because you feel like points should be a representation of skill, when that view is not shared by the vast majority of MCSG.

May aswell lock the thread, no ones coming up with anything apart from points are fun and ultimately wasting time.
.-.

edit: Zeno just posted, someone finally brings up something other than points are fun.<3
