Innapropriate Names.

Does this seem fair, and a good idea?

I agree with everything you said, but there was a command on a server I used to play on which allowed staff members to find out the details about a player, including what their real Minecraft username is if they have a nickname. That could be used in this situation.
Aye, I know there is ways around it. However our devs would have to code this themselves (while I have no doubt they can do it) due to MCSG being a custom plugin, with custom commands etc and this would take a while. I just believe our devs efforts would be better used in other aspects, instead of creating commands to help rule breakers. :p

How about there can be a section where people can apply for nicknames, and if they give good reasons and write some good paragraphs about why they should be able to change their name, they can get the username they requested as long as it also doesn't go against the rules. But it would also have to be a good application.
And thus creating more work for either us or the senior staff, as we have to review applications.

Frankly, if you're dumb enough to put inappropriate words in your name for a game which children play, you deserve to suffer the consequences.

It's just Essentials. You can use /nick to rename a player, but they have a ~ in front of their name. You can use /whois newname to see what their actual name is.

I know it would take effort, but honestly anything you do would take effort. That isn't really an excuse when all you have to do is spend a minute reading and if successful do a command. In the end, we could end up with more donors because of it. I'm not necessarily saying it should be done, but I'm going to make my arguments as though I was.

Shouldn't have made bad names, as people have already stated it will be abused. People could impersonate mods and take other people's names.

I'm going to have to disagree with the "need" of this.

While a lot of points here are valid, such as maybe the name is just an old name from 2 years ago, and they can't be bothered to pay for a new one, I can see this being abused.
Here's the thing - I understand that you said just moderators would be able to do it. Sometimes, our moderators do like to have fun (shocking!), and sometimes that gets out of hand. To prevent this, we simply don't give them the chance to abuse something.
Yes, there are ways around it, and we could most certainly get a real name out of a fake name very easily via the plugin, but I don't think it's worth having this command or the ability to.

In short, it'll be abused one way or another - it's the sad unfortunate truth, and I'd rather not implement something that is going to be abused when we could've been working on something much more productive.

If anybody were to have an inappropriate username, they should have had the foresight to know that it would cause controversy. It's not our fault that they were being rude and immature in the naming process.

I remember watching one of Chad's livestreams, and they found this guy called SluttyPig I think, so Chad only thought the name was funny and started teaming up with him and stuff. So I guess if your innapropriate name's funny enough, you'll be just fine.

No, it was probably just not considered inappropriate enough.
