People say 'Majority wants this, that, those'. What about this?

Weekly, the maps in the voting are changed. No randomized voting. You would vote for what maps you want for that week on the forums. Although, Week 1 maps won't be available during Week 2, this would prevent people from saying 'Omg, its played again jr3uru3tu goddamn SG4'.

PROS :
  1. More activity on the forums
  2. No more complains on overplayed maps (Depends)
  3. People could play what they have great opinions on instead of playing maps that 'nubz' vote for in-game
CONS :
  1. Weekly maintenance
  2. Anymore cons, anybody?

The current Voting system is better because the majority (not even the majority as it only requires 50% of people) can vote to change the map choices. From there it's up to the majority to choose which map. The current system is fair and allows players to choose their preferred map on equal grounds. If it were to be changed to this "weekly" map selection you would see players who didn't play during the week that their map wasn't up. The community wants a choice when it comes to what map they play and this would limit their choices.

But the community DOES choose what map they want on that week.
Sarcastically and technically speaking, the choices are limited to SG4 and Breeze Island, since people votes for that 24/7

These happen to be my favorite maps, and even with donor I find it very difficult to get into a server where these are playing. I think you may be exaggerating Hyst....

I'll agree, if they turn up in the voting que, one of them will win. But with the current voting system, that is only a 1/5 chance (2 maps out of 13 possible, 4 choices, actual math, bleh). The skip system is hardly ever used, so it's just a choice between randomly selected maps, which I think is fair and working well.

Now, as per your actual solution: I don't like it. First of all, it would limit you to just four maps for an entire week, which holds even less variety than we currently have. Secondly, with the (necessary) caviat of maps not being allowed to be chosen two weeks in a row, this would almost necessarily mean either. A) Switching back and forth between two sets of maps or B) ending p with a week of maps that most people can agree aren't all that great.

Finally, your views on this really seem kind of arrogant to me. Those "nubz" play on these servers as well, why should they be treated as second class citizens compared to forum goers? There is no reason why someone's vote should be discounted, because they don't go on the forums or disagree with the forum majority (who, through past experience have very different views than the server majority). Everybody should get an equal say, and that collective vote is what decides a map currently, while you are suggesting that only a fraction of the server's population should actually get that say, and that their opinions should outweigh that of "nubz".

To summarize, I am against this idea. Our current voting system works perfectly fine, and isn't nearly as unbalanced as people like to say. This solution would only replace the current problems with others that I consider more major, and is incredibly arrogant and biased, placing the contentment of those who go on the forums above the vast majority who make up the server's massive population. We have a voting system that works. We should keep it, and stop complaining.

Good.. no, excellent point.
As much as the seriousness is in that 'essay', the last line is hilarious :p
I'm omitting my commitment to this idea, and to your statement about the skip system not being used, I disagree with it. 99% of the time I play today whenever there are no either Breeze nor SG4 on the voting, people will start saying 'SKIIIIP', and it will (almost always) skip.
Amazing maps like Kharmunrah and Teweran doesn't get much attention because people has no respect for the mapmakers and since Breeze was one of the first Community Maps, it created a bandwagon effect. Where a and b wants Breeze. The whole other alphabets would want Breeze.
Also, since SG4 is a 'TeamVareide' map, its 'mainstreamed'.

I guess my large post making skills are starting to rub off on people. :D

Edit: More on topic:
I do have to actually agree with Hystericallify on one thing in particular...it is true that I see that 90% of games I play are either on Breeze or SG4. People use skip all the time. I also play a few on Teweran, SG1, and SG2 occasionally. (the 10% of the time.) Don't get me wrong though, I love Breeze and SG4 (short games. <3) but I don't agree with them being chosen as often as they are.

I think it could be changed so it's 3 options per skip instead of 4...wouldn't be much of a change, but it might help a little. It wouldn't hurt to try.

I needed the practice for writing an 8 paragraph letter to Bic and Bess XD

In my personal experience, the Skip option hasn't been used all that often (unless the choices are uniformly meh, as many of the most recent round of community maps seem to be). I definitely see where you're coming from though, and a possible solution might just be to have a selection of random maps, with no skipping at all, or a maximum of one skip.

I don't think it would be as much of an issue if the other maps in the rotation carried as much love from the general population as map 4 and Breeze do. Sadly, that is not the case.

That sounds nothing like Tironas? G33ke makes long posts, and Tironas sounds extremely smart.
