This has been suggested many times (by me also: http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/threads/adding-friends-in-game.81336/), and I'm pretty sure it's going to get implemented in the future! I remember posting a thread about this and this is what Devin said:

Also, there could be a /friend off command or something like that so that well known people like youtubers aren't constantly spammed with requests filling up their chat ^.^

This feature is a must!!!!!! The whole suggestion is a must!
