I think v1 is more luck based and less strategic and competitive.
I sadly have to agree here. I joined right at the end of V1, and it just seemed like it was all about who managed to find the right stuff by pure chance.
Like Bobo said, I think the luck factor in it is what makes it fun. MCSGv2 is:
1. Follow Route
2. ???
3. PROFIT!
It's the same thing every time. If you get OP gear, there is a high chance no one or few other people will, which means no one even stands a chance against you.
In SG Classic, you might not get what you're looking for, with fewer tier 2's, and less chance of getting good gear in them, you are less geared than you would be in v2 and anyone with leather armour could even take you out if they were skilled enough.
The one thing I would change however is decrease the tier 2's even more, fix the chests that always have the same things in them, and add mobs for just the night time.

Basically, SG Classic gave everyone a chance because it was based off a combination of luck and skill rather than a good route, no bad luck (you don't need good luck, as long as you're not having awful luck you will still be OP), and a very slight amount of skill.

Of course, there's also the nostalgia factor, but that won't last forever. It's still nice while it's here, but it will simply expire eventually and SG Classic will be a normal thing (not that it will be less fun though :p).

I personally like V2.. it gives solo players a chance.
On V1, as long as you have a team of 3+, you win

I don't think the luck in Classic is fun luck though. With Classic, when someone has good luck and mine is mediocre, I simply lose. There's nothing I can really do against someone that kills me three times faster, especially with few secondary weapons. But in v2, if I have the bad luck of a stacked team of three at corn when I have crap, if I can get a little luck I can make something out of nothing. If I get the materials to make flint and steel, I can still stand a chance.

Classic just follows the v1 mindset I disliked, which was total domination by 1 guy. This is perfectly demonstrated by my mindset in game. When I played last summer, once I got full iron and a diamond sword, I felt like I won, and it was often true. No other threat could oppose me. But in v2, I'm still on edge after corn; there are still people just as strong as me out in the world, so I still have to fight.

1) Two Person Deathmatch - I no longer have to go up against teams every.... single... match... in deathmatch
2) 60 minute games - more time to find a way on how I am going to deal with teams that are dominating corn
3)Mobs - These are what made the survival games unique. There was a more survival aspect to these servers where you wouldn't be stuck walking around a map looking for people to fight. You would have to learn to survive the night. Mobs were on hard so there would be some nights where you would stay up in the trees to hide from the creatures below. The aspect of mobs would also alter the result of the match sometimes. The guy who would have won the chests in the center with all the iron armor could end up dying if he isn't too careful. When enough zombies swarm you and a few creepers blow you up that can take quite a toll on your health.

I didn't say I dislike V2. But in both of them, teams will destroy. The version has no effect on that.
The team of 3 takes the OP route, because one of them is bound to know it, and then the solo guy also takes an OP route because he happens to know one too. In just about every situation in every version, teams will win.

That's fair enough, and we both have our preferences. You can still make flint and steels and things in V1 though, everything is just a bit harder to do which I like.

If you don't like it, just go play MCSGv2 xD
V1 was so much more challenging and more about survival. It was simply better, and on the Classic servers there are basically only staff and forummers, meaning the people playing there are generally more mature.
You just don't say anything wrong, do you.
