If they say they hack, then we punish them - it is the same as seeing someone using aimbot etc

As much as it is a shame some users jokingly 'admit', you'd be surprised about how many users that do hack admit on a daily basis.

Even though it may be unfair to some, it is the most obvious way of finding out if someone hacks, so the 7 day ban is in place to serve the justice.

It's not something directly related to this topic but if platinum donors admit their fly hacks jokingly, they won't get banned.

Someone: He's a platinum donor of course he can fly.

:p
I know platinum donors can fly in the hub and lobby but if they admit to fly hacking in the lobby they can still hack ingame. You could say that they are just joking because they are platinum but most players who say they are hacking are just joking. In my opinion you shouldnt ban one player and not the other just because one player has donor. If you are going to ban for jokingly saying I hack then ban for all player equally. Why give priority to a platinum donor, they can still hack too.

What if it is said really sarcasticly in reply to someone calling them out for hacks?

Like...

Randy: OMG, HE IS FLY HACKING OMGMGMGMG BAN!!!
Plat Donor: Yes, I am obviously hacking it's not like I have platinum donor or anything.

Ive seen regular players who obviously are joking get banned. It is in the rules.
  • Admitting to using a modded/hacked client, even jokingly, will result in a ban.
Trust me it sounds very silly but based on the rules thats how it goes.
I bet you if you ask a platinum donor in the lobby "how are you flying" most of them will reply with "I'm hacking" or "hacks". Some responses are not as obvious as "Yes, I am obviously hacking it's not like I have platinum donor or anything."

Lets not start a flame war here guys, ;). Just state your opinions and let it be.

As stated previously by other staff, quoted directed from the Official MCGamer rules, "Admitting to hacking even jokingly will result in a ban". In my own moderator and just playing experience, some people who have said they're hacking, actually were hacking. That's before I was a moderator of course. As a matter of fact, people have actually asked me to ban them after them saying "I hack" in chat. If you were joking when saying that, probably not the smartest thing to do, as it's taken as you just hacking in-game.

True, you never know if it's taken seriously, but we can't take chances. People complain about hackers constantly, to me at least, and eliminating any possibilities of one makes playing SG more comfortable. Don't get me wrong, it can be a tad bit harsh to ban a player for saying "I hack" just as we would for them actually hacking, but it's our job. Also I despise hackers, so I personally don't want to take chances.

I mean, this really shouldn't be an issue in the first place. If you have read the rules, and decide to blatantly disobey them, you deserve whatever punishment the staff team decides on. If you are simply ignorant to the rule, then, well, you should have read the rules. You are expected to read the rules before you get on the server for the first time, and the staff team will not be lenient on their punishments if you choose not to.

In reality, we all know this isn't actually the case, but we still need some system in place. Let's be honest: if the staff team only kicked for admitting to hacks, people wouldn't stop doing it. It takes about 5 seconds to rejoin the server. With the punishment the way it is now, it will actually seriously dissuade people from committing this offense. And for all we know, the user who (jokingly) admits to hacks, actually could be using them, in which case the punishment was correct in the first place.

All in all, this is a serious offense, and I believe the punishment reflects it appropriately the way it is now.

I'd also like to point out the alternative viewpoint: what if we never punished for admitting to hacks?

Sure, the sarcastic kids are free to joke around all they'd like, but they're bound to do that regardless of what the rules say (usually these kids aren't aware of the rules to begin with). But simply by allowing it to be unpunishable, people would flood the chats with admissions to possessing hacked clients; whether they actually have legitimate hacks or not, the end message is the same: everyone has hacks, and are proudly saying so.
Now imagine how it would look to new players to hear that everyone boasting about their hacks, and nothing is being done about it. It would make us look soft on hackers, and they'd get a bad first impression of our community before realizing that most of those people are just joking around.

Personally, I feel that the punishment for admitting to hacks should be reduced to 3 days: not enough a full hacking offence, but enough to send a clear message. However, given our policy, I can see the merits of taking 0 tolerance and and classifying, "admitting to hacks" alongside, "using hacks". One states capability for illicit action, the other is the action.
