It objectively takes more time to get to a chest if you spawn on a corner. A player normally has to move about ten blocks toward center before being able to open a chest. If you spawn on a corner, this takes between 12-14 blocks. (Yes, I just counted that out)
Reaching around the corner can be annoying, too.
There is one thing you're missing, though: There is one benefit to it, you get to choose between two chests very easily that are the same distance. This allows for you to pick the chest that might not get hit by a more professional player and give you a higher chance...also useful for teams that joined one after another to a server... Just a thought.
