It is sometimes quite peculiar knowing that some people may be surprised knowing that girls too play video games. And depending on where it is found out, some individuals would act as if they hadn't seen a female body type, nor talked to a girl at all in their entire life. What does perplex me is how some people can act so disgustingly towards having that knowledge of female players, and from what I have seen, and have been told before, that some males can make some discrete comments, and references, as well as using harsh stereotypes towards the individuals that it sometimes goes too far. It's quite painful knowing that some people have to put up with something like this, and known victims are well recognized as females, here's a video to which tells what it is like to be a woman on the internet, and I warn you with extreme concern, that it does have inappropriate language and pictures, and viewer discretion is advised, I also do not have any intentions of advertisement, nor to troll, but to provide a video that helps prove a point towards this topic, it is found here
If any staff member disagrees with me showing the video, feel free to private message me so I can delete the link.
Back to topic, some women can be harshly threatened, and live in a potentially hostile environment around the internet, depending on where they are, this is usually due to the fact that some people would tend to target them and of course, ruin their day, and in extreme cases, their life. I have also had an experience with a friend of mine, (She is a female) who had added a mysterious contact on Skype, but without warning or suspicion had decided to video chat the mysterious individual, and we all know where that went, and no, she wasn't hacked, but she was traumatized. This shows how some people can showcase, and type in some pretty nasty stuff, it also proves that no one is really safe on the internet, regardless of it being a girl or a boy, there are some things we must keep a look out for.
This also comes in with gaming, and as previously stated, a lot of stereotype is used towards women who play video games online. Some people get easily confused when it comes to such matter, and to clarify, gender does not define skill in video games, practice and dedication defines skill in video games, people from both genders can get confused with that, and usually doesn't end so well. That's why I have always have hoped for global encouragement of acceptance of both genders of being on the internet, there's supposed to be nothing wrong with who you are on the internet, because in the end, we are humans anyways.
