This is a bit of a touchy subject, but I said I would write something about this topic, so yeah.... ;-; i apologize for bad ideas
Don’t blame hormones or society. Blame yourself for giving in to those hormones, and conforming to society.
Remember, there’s a reason why people used to (And in my opinion, still should) consider females the ‘finer’ gender of the two.
Alright, let’s jump into it.
As you might be able to tell by the title of this thread, I’ll be highlighting the discrimination, bias, common misconceptions, and harassment that revolves around girls on the Internet.
“Girls shouldn't play Video Games" mindset, and why it's wrong.
While most video games are aimed towards males, there are plenty of female-based games, and also plenty of girls who were raised in a way that made them accustomed to less-than-gentle hobbies.
As someone who has two siblings, one older sister and one younger sister, the relationship between my siblings was pretty unusual in modern-day society. I let them drag me into watching Barbie movies with them, and in return they would play Super Smash Bros., Legend of Zelda, and similar video games with me. And yet I’m still clearly a straight male, and my sisters are conservative females… but one of them is Silver 3 in League of Legends! >.> She could chomp some of you Bronzies!
Gender-based remarks.
Sometimes it’s subtle, but other times it’s incredibly facepalm-worthy.
Ever been in a Lobby of MCSG, and read someone say, “Any girls wanna Skype?”
I’ve seen that a few too many times to count, and I honestly want to just /mute them each time because of the blatant “thirst” that they are exhibiting.
It’s less blatant in MCGamer, but many of us play other video games, and I can’t really guess what you might do in those places…
In the past, I’ve spoken to a few female gamers about how the reactions they get whenever someone finds out that they’re not a guy, and the reactions haven’t exactly been the most positive. Seeing as my discussions with them were a few months ago, I don’t have any quotes, but a common theme was that they were not surprised to receive slightly inappropriate remarks, and a few players had even gone to the extent that one lady felt threatened when she went on a certain video game, causing her to eventually quit and move over to Minecraft.
“Girls are bad at video games" mindset, and why that's wrong as well.
Oh, I cannot express with words how wrong this is… usually, they just don’t commit as much time to practicing as most other guys, but on the occasion that they DO… well, let’s just say that pretty much everyone on MCSG has died to a girl in a fair fight at least once.
A common phrase/idea that I’d like to highlight here is, “You got killed by a girl!!!1!”
In a video game, being beaten by a girl shouldn't really be that rare… especially in Minecraft. And it’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of!
All-in-all, I feel like there's a large gap between genders on the Internet... and even on MCGamer, and that gap really shouldn't be there. Perhaps it's just because of the way many people think... however, I can't help but think that we should try to eliminate. I see it on MCGamer sometimes - it's less prevalent here than in many other gaming communities, but it's still existent, and so I still think of it as an issue.
If you think that you or a friend has tendencies to participate in gender bias, please try to identify and prevent it. Every small effort counts.
(I promised that I would make this thread like 4 days ago, and I started to write it but never finished it... writers block 2 op 5 me)
Edit: Discuss pls
