Fox's guide to understanding what are hacks and how to detect them

1. Be a hacker.

Just kidding...

To understand hacks, you first need to understand what is hacking.

Hacking means to use a computer to gain unauthorized access to data in a system. In Minecraft's case, and in all games, with hacking, you can gain unauthorized access to the games' system and make the game more favorable to oneself.

Since our case is Minecraft, and our case arcs to MCSG, we're going to talk about the most common hacks used for MCSG and how to detect them:

Force-field: The hackers' head and torso move along to hit the player. The moves are very unnatural, and head usually moves in not a normal way. Some hacked clients have the ability to edit set values and modify the players' hit radius. Players can set this value to three and be able to hit an enemy within three blocks away. Set it to six and they can hit any enemy within six blocks away.

Aimbot: The hacker hits another player without looking at them. The head moves very unnatural too.

Killaura: The hacker is able to hit multiple people at the same time. Same goes with this one, the head moves very unnatural too. Some hacked clients have the ability to edit set values and modify the players' hit radius. Players can set this value to three and be able to hit an enemy within three blocks away. Set it to six and they can hit any enemy within six blocks away.

Crit-hacks: They're able to do critical hits without jumping.

No-knockback: The player doesn't gets knock-back whether hit by a fishing pole or hit by an arrow. Aditionally, they're not affected if someone is sprinting and hits them.

Bow-aimbot: The name says it itself. Bow-aimbot has the same basis as aimbot; Hacker shoots another player with his arrows without looking at him. One important thing to note is that Bow-Aimbot shoots the arrow at where the person is standing; if a player moves even one block after the arrow is fired, it will miss.

Water Walking: Most likely you'll never encounter one, thanks to No-Cheat plus, however, the hack is just basically walking on water —just like jesus.

Reach hacks: Reach hacks don't exist. The lost support back in beta, however as I stated in Forcefield and Killaura, they both have the possibility to edit set values to have a wider hit radius.

Now, go ahead and with your new knowledge report some hackers: http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/forums/Report/

Unfortunately MCGamer has come to this, where we have to create threads in order to recognize hacks. Despite the Moderators efforts, it still has come. Alas, this thread I feel is very well put together and I thank you Fox for compiling it!

This guide does give a lot of good information - however, it's aim is to give as much correct information as possible, yes? (Well, without being an absurd length.)

Since our case is Minecraft, and our case arcs to MCSG, we're going to talk about the most common hacks used for MCSG and how to detect them:
Generally, Minecraft hacks are simply Mods that provide unfair advantages. Some people even go so far as to classify Mini-Maps as hacks.

Aimbot: The hacker hits another player without looking at them. The head moves very unnatural too.
This is Click-Aimbot.
Regular Aimbot is when the person's head always immediately moves to look at the nearest non-registered (friended) player, but does not take action.
Click-Aimbot is, specifically, when a person clicks and automatically hits the non-friended entity nearest to them. A skilled hacker can use this and keep track of players around them to make sure that it looks like "good ping".

No-knockback: The player doesn't gets knock-back whether hit by a fishing pole or hit by an arrow.
Additionally, they're not affected if someone is sprinting and hits them.

Bow-aimbot: The name says it itself. Bow-aimbot has the same basis as aimbot; Hacker shoots another player with his arrows without looking at him.

Indeed, yes.

Indeed too. Mods can access the system and make modifications.

Hm. I included Click-Aimbot and Aimbot just as one.

That's self explanatory, though it gives the player another example of how this hack works.

One important thing to note is that Bow-Aimbot shoots the arrow at where the person is standing - if a player moves even one block after the arrow is fired, it will miss.
I did not know that.

Will add what I think is needed to the thread c:
Thanks, Mooclan.

That's why bow aimbot is pretty much the most useless hack there is c:

They are the same thing, yes. The only difference is that Forcefield only targets one person, Killaura targets multiple people at the same time.

That's not true at all.

It depends on which mod/hack client you are using. Some may have them as the same (and thus, only one - forcefield or kill-aura) but other, more comprehensive hack clients will possibly have them listed separately.

Forcefield is generally for one entity, and sometimes slower at hitting.
Kill-Aura was originally commonly mistaken as Forcefield, until people who actually used it clarified otherwise. Kill-Aura will, in some hack clients, be the same thing as Forcefield, but in others it will:
A) Be faster
B) Hit more targets at once

For example, LeafyGreenTea had Kill-Aura.

Hmm, I always though forceshield was activated by clicking, and hit multiple people, while kill-aura is basically the same, but is always on.

Personally, the easiest way to know what hacks are is to try them yourself —obviously not in MCSG.
Download some hack client, try it in vanilla and test them for yourself; gives you a better idea of how hacks work.
