Hmmm.... I will die without Optfine, if you remove 1.6 compatibilty completely...

Although some people still use 1.6, it's important for the developers to look at the big picture. In this case, >95% of player use 1.7. While the remaining percentage is still important and valued by the staff, doing what's best for the majority of the community should come first. Besides, Optifine will update... eventually.

I want to know the legitimacy of that 3.2%. There seems to be a ton of players on this thread that fall under that seemingly small category.

How was the data collected anyway? Was it by each login or by player ID? Because every single player who plays on 1.6 clients have attempted using 1.7 to see if, with the performance boost 1.7 offers, they can play without Optifine.

Can you not just drop 1.7? The only reasoning for not doing so, as I recall it, is that you're not going to use an outdated client.
By reverting the servers to 1.6, everyone can play, 3.2% is a small percentage of the players right now, but it's a rather large amount of players; I'm sure people wouldn't cry at the servers being changed to solely 1.6 for lag issues, though possibly the removal of their beloved toggle sprint. However, I can only see benefits from using 1.6:
-Everyone can play
-Dual client lag removed

I'm not sure why this hasn't already come up in the thread, as it's a perfectly viable solution, right?
A very large amount of players would not bother downgrading, that is almost certain. It would also deter new players from trying out the network.

No 1.6? OPtifine helps reduce lag and it's nowhere near done for 1.7! Plus have you seen the increase of 1.7 hackers? This isn't really a good idea until they get anti-hack software...it's hard to win games now with the sudden increase of hackers... :/

Honestly I like using 1.7 better then 1.6. Especially with the better sprit button that they have added. It's easier to pvp. I know numerous of players who use 1.6. They are just waiting on the 1.7 optifine so they could be able to switch. I'd rather have 1.6 taken off for people to use 1.7 so they wouldn't have to complain as much.

Upgrade to 1.7. Please. The auto-sprint mechanism is more than worth the temporary loss of optifine, and if the vast majority of players use 1.7, it makes no sense to wait.

Personally, 1.7 bugs me. The rubber banding gets annoying and I am a huge anti-BSM activist. The addition of features of that particular mod made me dislike 1.7, however it is growing on me.
