I'm not sure if this was brought up yet but some people would rather death than a life sentence but have you ever thought about death not being a great enough punishment?
Yes, which is precisely why in many cases death sentence can be more mercyful than a lifetime in jail... that only screws them up more for the most part, that is cruel form my point of view.

I have made this thread today to see everyone's views on the topic of Death Penalties.

The death penalty is quite a controversial topic to debate/argue about hence why I made this thread; for debate. Some people may say that it is completely immoral, unjust or irrational, and prison is a much more "real punishment". On the other hand, people say that it gives closure to the victim's family or bring a sense of justice, or being less expensive than sending a man/woman to life in prison.

I personally believe that it should be legalised as it brings closure to families of victims but also may stop crime-rate as criminals may take a step back and evaluate what they are doing and how it could turn out for them.

So what are your views?

This is a deep thread for the Minecraft Gamer Network Forums don't you think?

Anyway, I have a lot to write about and I have to go off my computer soon, so I'll work quickly.

Basically, the death penalty is slightly less human but more realistic and the better option for a variety of reasons. May I begin explaining that, just like hackers, people who commit a crime once are more likely to commit a crime again. People who are sex offenders and are let off the hook will almost certainly do it again. People who murder, if let be, will do it again. This is most likely because of mental illness, or because of a sick point that is trying to be proven. None the less, those who do not commit crimes again normally just made a really sick mistake. The question is how to tell them apart?

Obviously there are crimes that should be automatically death penalty. For me, the only one is First degree murder. In case you don't know what that is, I will give you a definition: n, a person is found guilty of first degree murder when murder is perpetrated by means of poison, lying in wait, or any other willful, deliberate, and premeditated killing.

Basically, if you think about how you kill someone, and then execute, that's first degree. However, there are other parts to first degree murder, and it should only be this part. The other part is if you are committing a felony and kill someone in the process... i.e. I am robbing a house and kill the homeowner without the intention of doing so but do it none the less.

This kind of killing shows mental insanity; unless you really hate someone, why would you kill them? Even if you do hate them a lot, or for some other reason, not many people would straight up kill them.

I feel that the death penalty itself should only be used in this scenario, for I feel (as evil as it may be) that the protection of others around them are more important the protection of a person evil enough to premeditate and kill someone. Is that the kind of person you want you or your parent's tax dollars paying for? A lifetime in prison is a fair amount of time, and prisons cost a fair amount of money, especially the kind that will be holding this type of such high security criminals.

Not only is the death penalty more cost affective to good citizens, it protects them more from harmful people and removes evil from our world.

Call me sick, or evil if you will, I know how bad my opinion can sound. Sometimes I questioned myself as I wrote this.

Watch this video as it explains my opinion somewhat but more in depth. It also couples with a story of a person that should have faced the death penalty but didn't. If you are a bit squeamish, don't watch it. There is nothing gory, just story telling, but it is a bit of a disgusting story. The man in the news story is a very, very bad person.

I do not think something it is done with good intentions, such as proctecting those around you, can be called a sick or evil act. Your intentions define your actions and your actions define you as a person, so by no means you should be accused of being sick or evil for supporting an idea based on good arguments to support it. If you were to say you support it just because you want them to die and you do not care about safety and wellbeing of others but only for the death itself, than that there would be deserving of being called rick and/or evil.

EDIT: Id like to add that the video you linked, while making sence in many parts, seems to be too harsh and does not approach the topic in the best way.
Id like to point out something out from that video that I do agree with, why is it that we as humans we put ourselves avobe all other creatures, we are not more valuable than animals in any way, and from where I see it, for the most part we are probably the sh****est species in the world we live in.

I am not trying to change your opinion, I just made this thread for people to discuss, I have seen many good points in this thread. From both sides of the argument.
I'm saying from all the points I've read, still no

this was a local crime and I actually have connections with the victim, I know a person who knows them. Anyways I think he shudve been thrown in prison with no privileges wat so ever, just eat sleep. Letting him into the public is absurd. I still don't think the death crime should ever be used unless the person is a war criminal

Fair enough. Thinking back, I would include war criminals as well. However, having people like this being alive on the planet, especially ones worse than him... what if one of them got out and new where they were going straight back to? They could just go and kill 2-3 people, steal a car, drive really fast, kill some more people and just go straight back to prison!

I'm not saying this would happen very often, but 2-3 people's lives are too much of a risk.

Im going to admit this, theres a big chance my opinion on the topic is a little biased by the fact that I am from a country where the whole justice system is so corrupt thieves kill someone to steal on the streets and they are freed in about 2 months... but then you someone were to kill the thief in self defense that person would go to jail for lots of years.
