You already can't use poles in default MC, it's a server plugin, so it won't change.

What @Wert9999 said. Its all up to bukkit to decide if we can use them or not. I guess this rumor started when some guy tried it in their vanilla snapshot server or something, but if this isn't the case, then I'm screwed.

I can't believe people actually thought that hitting people with fishing rods was a vanilla minecraft thing. It always has been a bukkit thing, it has never been a part of regular minecraft. I can't believe it took four pages of this thread for someone to point this out.

If this is true, which I'm going to go and say it's not, as we know fishing rod knockback is a feature of bukkit... we should all start learning how to block hit xD
