Hey guys, so this is going to be somewhat of a negative post towards the staff team but I think it needs awareness. The main point of this post is going to be referring to mods and team speak and the way they deal with hackers. I am going to divide this into 4 sections and then a conclusion at the end. The three main sections will be.
  • Mods on leave.
  • Mods that cant record.
  • Mods not responding to pokes.
  • DND Channels.
Okay lets start.
  1. Mods on leave - Okay I fully understand that sometimes mods do have to take a leave of absence for various reasons. But I personally believe that this feature is being a abused. I am looking at teamspeak right now as I speak and there is 7 staff members on leave and I have noticed them being on leave for sometime. As said previous I know some are legitimate reasons but if you just keep going on leave for reasons like I want to take a break from moderating then why are you still a staff member. Being a mod requires a lot of motivation, if you don't have that then its not the place for you.
  2. Okay this is one that really frustrates me, why can you not record? There is no reason unless you are in school, on your phone or tablet what ever. That is the only reason. Saying that your memory is full or that fraps is broke is not a valid excuses. It takes 2 minutes to delete some old files and it takes 5 minutes to re install fraps or what ever. This is one that I think is a real excuse for mods that "could not be bothered doing there job" If you don't want to work just put off duty in your name and stop making up excuses please.
  3. Yes I know we cant see you in games etc, but I think it is quiet obvious that you have not come if there is solid evidence that the user is hacking and he still has not been kicked. Also on this topic is staff members that complain about you poking multiple staff members but do you want to know what they ask multiple staff members... because you never responded to them and they are unsure if you are coming. Is it to much to ask for you to say "on my way" or " I am already dealing with something" just to give us a bit of reassurance. Also another thing I would like to add... When you sign up for mod you agree to moderate all regions. And no having bad internet is not an excuse. I can promise you I have one of the worst connections on this server but I still managed to record hackers in AU with over 500 ping.
  4. Ahh good'ol DND channels, they have always been a nuisance. They were okay for a while but I am starting to see a lot of staff members using them again. You are only meant to put DND on you channel if you are actually doing something important. Not for eating or sleeping... Seriously? As I look on teamspeak now I see 3 DND channels...
Okay to finish it off, you always ask us to come on teamspeak to poke you if there is a hacker. We cant poke you if there is no one to poke. For all the staff member reading this remember you signed up to help the community, I know you are just people and sometimes you want to take a break but if so just put off duty in your name and stop making up excuses like I cant record.

The whole point of this post was to maybe open some you your minds that it is your duty to help the community, if you don't want to do that why be staff? I hope you take this in the right way, I am not trying to be slanderous to the staff team I want to help make it better and maybe give you some motivation.

And lastly I want to add, please even if you are going to deal with the hacker respond to us so that we know you are in the server, it only takes 2 seconds and it make our lives easier and also yours because if we know you are here we can go fight the hacker to get enough evidence for you.

Thanks for reading this post and I hope you take this into consideration.

In a way, this post will be pretty useful for new-coming moderators, because as staff, that would mean they have willingly given time for the server and to help it, and in the application, one of the questions asked if the applicant knows any other languages other than English, it could be in a way a little difficult when handling the EU servers or any foreign language users if they don't understand the specific language, however there is always a solution for it, but I guess that is one thing to point out when they have to moderate all regions, to make sure they know what they are handling and what language anyone is speaking so if the moderators don't know, they could simply go ask for help with others.

But overall, this could be a useful post, to let people know what responsibilities there are when being a moderator. Also, I have one question, what does DND stand for?

Thanks for bringing these points up, i greatly appreciate the constructive criticism you have given the staff team. If you don't mind, i would like to say a few things about your points.

Mod on leave: Very many mods have school, a social life and other things they need to maintain. I for one, used a leave of absence to study up for Spanish, Math and science tests, and that was for three days. But i also have the threat that if any of my grade are below a 3.0 (B) i have to quit minecraft for two months, and can only moderate forums, and occasionally game. Mods on leave you can't really make assumptions about until you have understood what is going on.

Not recording: I personally agree with this. Only one person i know has given a pretty good reason for it. Computer broke, reformatted, and no recording system, should be back soon. Other things like theyre on their phone or in school also make sense, but those are just temporary. Mods should be able to record.

I don't quite get the jist of the third one, we arent responding to pokes? If that last statement was true then you shouldn't be a mod, i only dont respond to pokes if i am AFK, or in something important.

DND channels are made so you are not disturbed, the mods in these channels are most likely recording or working with other mods, and possibly dealing with an issue, also DND channels are used for mods who are doing homework or want to hang out with some friends after a long day. Personally, you don't know every mods timezone, as do I, and as does everyone else, but i think mods should be able to chill for a little bit if it comes to that.

Hopefully this helps you see some other perspectives that you may or may not agree with. I hope you enjoy your day, and respond with any questions if you'd fancy.

Personally couldn't agree more with this one, especially the activity, most EU time (where hackers are at its peak) There's 1/2 mods normally US, active on the TS. I just think in general some aspects of servers need more dedicated time given to them than what is being done at the minute.

If I'm honest, I found the 'Can't record' section of your little rant a bit ignorant. There are legitimate reasons as to why people can be on a computer but can't do things like record- perhaps we're on an underpowered computer or our internet connection is unstable. This doesn't mean we're useless, however- usually mods who can't record put emphasis on TeamSpeak problems, moderating hub chat and the forums.

EDIT: Any problems staff have with recording hackers and whatnot are usually fixed within a short while.

But when you sign up for staff you are asked can you record. Am I right? Why would you apply if you have a computer incapable of recording? Defeates the purpose of mod doesn't it?

Also Internet is not a problem as previously explained I have terrible Internet and I was always able to record. My internet was so bad it took me an hour to upload a hacker video.

Perhaps we're on another computer apart from our regular one temporarily? You're right that we need to be able to record, but there are times when it just isn't possible.

fully agreed. even though I haven't played in 3 months but I know exactly what you mean. There are dozens of things that the staff team in this game does quite horribly compared to others.

That being mostly during the application process and then hiring the people. Do you not train these people? The last time I contacted a moderator he poked me back saying that I was probably wrong because he was friends with the guy who I was telling him to spectate, and never bothered to come in the server or anything. The moderator was thirteen years old, and was/is probably one of the worst still-moderators here.

Also, the moderator being in game is absolutely no excuse. It's their job, isn't it? I don't tell my boss that I need to finish this candy crusher game on my phone before I get back to work, neither would I tell a customer/visitor that.

How I would fix it: Raise age requirement, give proper training, trial every mod make them need recommendations from other people in the community and monitor their actions before given moderator status.

You don't need a hundred staff members either. You just need a handful of the most worthy ones if you want the job done correctly, not half-ass.
