Fishing Rod Help

Some people like to use it when sword fighting, I find this pointless though.

I've been able to kill tons of people on Roxbot without it, and every time I use it, I do considerably worse.
I'm sure it helps, but it can be easily countered with a strafe and I think it can be replaced with hitting the opponent a few more times.
Plus, with 1.7.2, breaking their sprint doesn't do much.
I do agree, however, that the fishing rod can be useful in PvP. (Knocking the opponent off ledges, etc)

You can practice on Roxbot as well, like NativeTalent mentioned.

I mainly use the fishing rod to break their sprint (1.6.4), to knock them off edges, and to make the enemy run into things.

Pointless? In no way the fishing did is pointless is fights. If you hit someone with a fishing rod it hits them back effectively, letting you get a cheap hit off I would go into detail, but I don't have the time.

When I never had a gaming mouse I always had fishing rod as my number 2 slot on my hotbar because it's SO easy to switch between your fishing rod and your sword, etc.

But right now I have my side buttons on my Razer Naga set as:
1 - Sword
2 - Fishing Rod
3 - FnS
4 - F5
5 - Bow

5) Golden apple (If any.)
6-8) Food (By saturation.)

I only use one macro - to rebind F5 to my mouse.

I've used the fishing rod technique in the past, and I seem to do better without it. I suspect that my high ping has something to do with it.

Ping is another topic. It just determines whether your hits register more. Using a fishing rod CAN help against someone with good ping, just not as much. The only thing ping is good for, is if your a fast clicker. So if you have good ping, and use a fishing rod, your set.
