Why I Think Age Limits Should Be Removed.

Am I the only person who seems to think the age limit should be higher? The community is quite large and I'm sure that there are a lot of applicants. Age limits filter out applicants who are generally less qualified, with an age limit the senior staff has fewer applications to look at making their jobs easier.

Now that I've read, or at least skimmed, all the replies in this thread, I'm going to give my own opinion. Maturity does come with age. It comes with experience, it comes with understanding, and it comes with growth. Acting maturely is a lot easier than that, it just comes in certain situations. There is a difference between the ability to act maturely and being genuinely mature.

When you're acting mature, you will easily lose your temper because that's how you really are for the most part. I did too, and still do on occasion. I came to the world of MCSG when I was 12, and I thought I was mature then because I acted more maturely than other people my age. But that was all because I'm not one of those popular kids, and all my friends were in the same situation as me where we wanted to act more maturely to be different from them I guess. It's kind of hard to explain how I think about this

I'm now 14 and I've grown a lot since then. It's because I'm more experienced now, and have experienced more responsibility in my life. I've gone from elementary school, where we never had to do anything of consequence really, to high school, where I've had to work a lot harder because for the first time in school I've consistently had homework and because I actually have to study now, and because I have exams in a month. And the next years are even harder. I'll eventually have to get a job, maybe learn how to drive and all that. I'll be even more mature by that point.

That's why the age requirement is 15/16. MCSG wants moderators to be mature, but for a long period of time rather than hiding behind mature words that are ready to blow at any moment. When you're old enough to apply for mod, you're a lot more responsible than you were 3 years prior to it, and you qualify to have a special rank to help these servers out. But you don't need that rank to help them out either. If you are truly mature, you will be reporting rule breakers yourself and you don't have to deal with them yourself. Technically, it's a lot easier to help before you're a moderator than once you become one.

All you have to do as a member is take a screenshot/record a video of someone breaking the rule, file a report and that's that. A mod, however, has to do the same thing and actually ban the person, record the ban somewhere and be polite about it. A mod also has to do the same second steps of banning when someone files a report, which is even more hassle. And unless they're busy with something IRL, or on occasion taking a small break from their duties, they have to drop whatever they're doing to help the members of the community.

This means, like multiple people have said earlier, that you have to leave your game of MCSG that you're doing so well in and go help whoever it is for what is in most cases a quick minute. You're constantly under pressure to fulfill your duties, so that you don't lose your rank and so that the people you're helping don't think you're a bad mod. A moderator has a lot more responsibility and therefore needs to be a lot more mature than most people that are under age.

And like you said, there are many many members that are mature but not old enough to be mod. It's ruined for them by the majority of people their age. The majority of people under the age of 15 are immature, so if they were just blatantly allowed to apply, the applications section would get even more spam of crappy applications, and like RC said, good applications that are made by parents or older siblings or whatever it is. These people ruin it for the mature people their age, but for that reason the under aged great applicants can just apply for an age exception, which of course if they don't get it's because MCSG doesn't believe they would make good mods, yet. You can still always wait a few more years, MCSG will probably still be around for a good amount more, and apply then! I'm sure by that point you will be able to actually tell that you are more mature than you were now, because you will undoubtedly grow by that point.

Sort of TL;DR:
There is a difference between maturity and acting maturely, and over time you realize it and you grow. You can help MCSG without being a mod, and being a mod really only makes you do a lot more work and doesn't really help you in any way personally. Finally, the majority of people under the mod age requirement are immature, so the mature people have to deal with it (mature people should be able to deal with it if they really are mature) or apply for an age exception, which if they can't get, then they obviously shouldn't be mods.

To be fair I am 13 these threads kind of do get under my skin a little. First age is maturity if you think you are mature at 13-14 go a head and apply for mod it is your choice. Some are worthy of the chance but one thing if you have a 10 year old mod who is going to let his friends play on his account what is going to happen its going to end in a lot of angry people. If you are 12,12,14 even 10 there are other servers out there that you can test out moderating and see if you even like it. In the end saying" Hey owners and admins you should lower the age limit. I think I am very mature" or "Hey I like ur servers can I have mod I am 12 and my IGN is Iwanttobeamcsgmoderator2001" is not going to get you far going out and trying to become a good moderator and come back when you think you are ready and mature. But anyways that is my opinion on this but I did not read any some of the comments if anything different was said I did not see it :/.

That is true, I know that. But that is very stereotypical. Honestely, I know a lot of VERY mature 12-13 year olds. If they act mature to others and make a very detailed application, I don't see why it should matter what age you are.

i notice that most are very unmature and freak out when they learn a new swear word and then turn around and run through the halls at the school screaming it out or giggling about it with all there friends which tells me that most are unmature

I agree and disagree with this. I disagree because just imagine a 9 year old with the ability to ban everyone. I also agree with this, but not any age I would say 13+ at the least
