A thread on a Facebook page dedicated to Washington Tornado recovery asked donors to focus on water and non-perishables if they prefer to give items instead of money to relief efforts.

“We ask that you DO NOT bring more clothes, bedding, or furniture to Crossroads United Methodist Church. Water and non-perishables are still welcome,” said a November 19, 2013 comment from the administrator for the Washington IL Tornado Recovery page on Facebook.

Donation checks can be made out to Tornado Relief Fund and dropped off (or mailed to) Washington Community Bank at 1895 Washington Road in Washington, IL 61571.

If you want to volunteer with clean up please call the Tazewell County Health Department at 309-925-5511.

You can donate to the Salvation Army by texting STORM to 80888 to make a $10 donation. You can also send a check to The Salvation Army, 401 NE Adams, Peoria, Illinois 61603. Specify that you’re donation is for “November Tornado Relief.”

To give directly to the American Red Cross for disaster relief, you can donate on their secure online donation page - click here. You can text redcross to 90999 to donate $10 via your mobile carrier, and the charge will be added to your next bill. To donate to them by mail, complete their donation form (click here) and mail it with a check made out to American Red Cross. The mailing address for donations is American Red Cross, P.O. Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340-2018. You can also donate by phone by calling the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

The American Red Cross is also accepting donations at the Red Cross office, 143 E. Main Street in Galesburg, Illinois.

Follow the American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Area on Facebook – click here.

Volunteers from QCPaws planned to take pet supplies to a shelter in Pekin the week of November 25, 2013. Donors can contribute pet supplies between noon and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between noon and 4 p.m. on weekends, at the Rock Island County Animal Shelter at 4001 78th Avenue in Moline, Illinois. To contact the shelter, call (309) 558-3647.

A private organization called Hope Creek Cares was collecting donations of items they planned to deliver to Washington, Illinois on Sunday, November 24. They are asking for personal care items, baby care items, new underwear and socks as well as winter gear and new, unopened toys. Donations can be dropped off at Hope Creek Care Center at 4343 Kennedy Drive, East Moline, Illinois. They also have a Facebook page set up for their donation drive – click here.

Herman’s, Inc., 2820 Blackhawk Road in Rock Island, will serve as a collection site for items to help with tornado relief in Illinois. Donations will be accepted there between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 20 and Thursday, November 21, 2013. They will fill a trailer there and take donated items to Red Cross-sponsored drop-off locations throughout central Illinois. Items they need include:

Non-perishable food;

Gift cards to drug, grocery and home improvement stores;

Plastic bins;

Zip-close sandwich bags and disposable coffee cups with lids;

Personal care items including toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, combs, shaving cream, soap and deodorant;

Cleaning supplies including buckets, sponges, rags, dish soap, paper towels, mops and towels;

Baby items including formula and diapers;

Hardware items such as flashlights, batteries, work gloves, duct tape, packing tape, scissors and tarps;

Dog and cat food;

Manual can openers;

Safety vests for workers.

This is almost all the ways you can help. CruelDefiance sorry for the long message

Earthquakes?
I live in SoCal, and a really bad earthquake is a once every 50 years thing. It's a lot better than the risk of tornadoes every year.

Also, I give my sincerest wishes of good will to all of the people in the Midwest who have been affected by this tornado season.

(Assuming they don't do sneaky under-cover stuff with their donations)
Even though it's one of the worst typhoons in the history of the Philippines, some politicians are taking some of the money donated and putting it into their bank account. The thing that's even more shocking about this is the fact that in September, we discovered that a few senators had stolen 10 billion Pesos (Roughly 228 million US Dollars) from the government that could have gone to helping these people.

Anyways, don't want to get off topic. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

At first, since I live in Washington state, I read this thread and immediately checked the T.V. for a weather warning.

All sunshine and clear skies over here. Can't really feel sorry for people in Illinois. If you did have a choice, should've lived somewhere other than Tornado Valley. ;-;

Illinois isn't even really part of Tornado Valley, not the dangerous part at least. Everywhere you live comes with disaster risks, even you, yes you. Basically you're saying we should just not live on Earth because there is a risk of disaster striking at some point.
And your post was just rude. You don't need to put down people just because something happened to them :/

The closest risk of natural disaster we have anywhere near us is volcanoes: specifically Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier, one of which is a sleeping volcano that hasn't done more than steam up twice in the past 200+ years.

And if I was rude, then the following quote from Gone With the Wind applies: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." Have a pleasant day! :)

If I could, I would send all my care and thoughts to all of those that are facing this terrible battle that us Brits never see ( the worse we get are floods or 70mph winds) by sending in cookies made of love. They may not be good, but they show people still care (+they are a greats comfort)

First thing SORRY FOR DOUBLE POSTING! I don't know how to edit with a reply on my phone .-. I just want to say that the UK is probably the most safest countries in the world. Few volcanos up in Scotland, but we dont care much about it as we built a castle on it .-. Yolo scots ftw! We have weak earthquakes if any, weak winds, I would say the cold kills most people due to nature :( still very said to think about
