Is there any donts when it comes to making maps?

Yes, when your makeing a map you want to have the corn right spot on in the middle and make sure it's not flat. Make mountains and do a good job terraforming. One last thing, If you build a house boat airplane etc then make sure it's not flat add detail.

Make sure you terraform and don't just build on top of a randomly generated world. Also make the map unique.

Ok because I wanted to add something that has to do with villagers treading system.

Don't build for the sake of building a map. Enjoy it!
Don't rush it!
Don't make your terraformed terrain to steep! (no one likes jumping block by block to get away from someone chasing you!)
Don't place chests randomly! (spread them out, put them in interesting spots)
Don't make it neutral (be sure to get some hills in there, maybe a river/lake, some plains... balance it out nicely!)
Don't leave blanks! (if you have large areas with no buildings, it's cause you haven't spent enough time on it)
