What makes a mod good?

Be sure you know what you're in for- but of course it's fun. You just need to be a person who honestly wants to help people out, with no selfish intent. Responsibility, patience, and perseverance are key factors, and shouldn't be ignored.

Sure, you may achieve the rank without this personality, but you're going to have a hard time liking it, which can be a problem.

Me personally, I really enjoy being a staff member here, it's a cool experience all around.

You have to be active in the Community, try to help players , try to communicate with them, try to make friends and be active on the teamspeak, in-game etc. friendly-fast-clever .
Well said, I think it's just commitment and determination. I know i'm not mod, but If I was to be a mod I know what players would want to see in me. Someone who they can respect, but laugh with. Someone who they can treat as a friend.

One major thing: you need to be flexible. Don't be a mod who defends everything the staff thinks, just be open to new ideas and solutions.

And NEVER EVER deny problems if they're staring you in the face.

Personally, I think Interaction is key to being a good Moderator; you need to be able to interact with all members of the community and handle many situations which involve interacting with users.

Okay so this is a topic that has been bothering me for a long time and honestly I would like to express my opinion:
As a Moderator I know that it is not easy. You have to carry yourself with integrity and not go crazy at any time (I'm saying this because if you do, people will call you a bad Mod and roast you). You have to be willing to face up if you are wrong and take the blunt force of whatever punishment because if you don't it will end up being worse. You have to have respect for others and in some situations you have to get salty. You have to keep your cool and you also have to know when to slay. You have to be dedicated to the community and know that you are a strong part of it, and you also have to know that a lot of people don't like you purely because you are a Moderator and they aren't. You have to know that people are going to be rude and that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be rude back. You have to be committed to the greater good of the server, not your own. You have to not be afraid to have a voice and speak up if you need to because if you don't speak up, things may not go the way they should. You also have to know that this is a huge commitment and that a lot of people would like to have your position and recognize that there is a reason why you have Moderator and that is because the Sr. Staff believes in you.

The last thing I would like to come across is that no one will express in a drawn out way that you are doing a great job. You have to know that you are hated for no reason; however, those same people that hate you will still come to you if someone is breaking the rules. It's a hard-knock life for us.

But it's worth it.

You meet so many new people, and you are exposed to so many new things. You become so tightly woven into the server and other staff that it is 100% worth it. It teaches you so much about who you are as a leader and who you want to be later on and what you want as a person. You also come across some of the most accepting people on the staff team and honestly this has been the best experience of my life.

Many people say, "Oh he's a bad Mod." But honestly is he really? Do you know what he's doing when he doesn't respond to your poke immediately? When he doesn't respond to your forum conversation within the hour? When he doesn't reply to your in-game request instantly? You can't make that judgement. We are Moderators for a reason and that is because we love this server and we want it to be ever greater. We want it to be the best server out there. We are not here to damage the server and I feel like many people feel as though we are here to destroy the server. Why would we do that? Why would we do that when we've been here for years? Why would I do that when I have dedicated so much time to a server? I hope that you see what I'm getting at.

I know I really strayed from the topic but I hope you take what I said into consideration. Thanks c:

Lord. I could literally write an essay on this, but the most important thing is. that you have to give it your all, and be true to you. You need to give it your absolute all in what you are. If you aren't a big forums person, you're not gonna be the best forums mod. If you aren't a big teamspeak person, you won't be a good teamspeak mod. But all that does not matter, you don't have to be all these things that everyone claims you need to be. You don't need to be the funniest, or the smartest, or the most active, all you have to do is be the best you there is. You offer what you have to offer, and excel at it. If you're kind, be the kindest, if you're a party-starter, make the community have fun, if you're a clan expert, lead the clan staff into the best direction possible. There is a lot you can do, and it all depends on who you are, and what you can bring to the table. You excel at what you do good at, and everyone here, will love and appreciate you for doing you. Every mod is different, all the mods of the past, present, and future are all different people, with different lives and personalities. We all do things differently, and that's why we all can shine in our own ways, and I know everyone else can shine in they're own ways too, just be the best you possible!

A good mod is one that didn't tryhard to get the rank. That, in itself, speaks volumes.
