The recent increase in resignations

Hello hello!

Recently, after browsing these forums for coming up to a year now, I've noticed an increase in the amount of moderators resigning from their positions. Why exactly? Of course, everyone who leaves the team by choice has their reasons, such as lack of motivation, the growing pressure of other commitments such as school and extra-curricular activities or simply for a change, however there are points in time where the amount of resignations increases over a period of time.

My first potential reason of the increase may be a case of simple human nature. The sheep mentality, or the influence of others and their actions on the actions and behaviours of another may be a cause. Before this comes off the wrong way, don't take it offensively. This mentality is part of normal human behaviour. You likely do it with friends and peers at school, where you act the same and follow them because you want to fit in as part of the group. Despite personal reasons being a main cause of the decision to leave the team, other moderators leaving the team could act as a catalyst to leave yourself, especially for those who are on the verge of leaving. This creates a knock-on effect, meaning large groups of moderators may all resign at similar times.

Another possible reason is conditions within the working environment which causes a certain group of people eg. a cliché of mod friends or mods which share similar opinions to leave at similar times, due to being unhappy with something within the staff team. Despite getting on well most of the time, moderators are humans too, and disagreements happen within the staff team which may cause moderators to leave, and normally ends up pretty messy. Situations such as changes to the server and its management may also cause such unhappiness within the working environment.

Why do you think there has been an increase in resignations? Coincidence or one of the reasons above?

PS: Hey, so I was wondering if you guys like these kind of threads. I really enjoy writing them, and it helps improve my forum presence and start some interesting discussion. Tell me what you think, and offer suggestions if you have any. Thanks!

It's because we have more mods, and we get more mods because the community as a whole is growing. The more staff we have, the more resignations there will be. I don't think it has anything to do with the community affecting the number of resignations.

First of all Creeper, I really enjoy reading your thread, and your ideas are really unique and cool! Keep it up.

Well I think they are resigning because.. First, people start hating on the staff, saying they don't do anything. I was on the US hub last night, and there was this one individual who started swearing at the mods for not banning an hacker. Which I think is completely unfair. Mods, do the best they can to help the community. If people like that are going to rant at staff, why don't they record the hacker and report them? So much easier, it helps the community as a whole, and leaves time for mods to do other stuff through out the server.

Secondly, schooling, education, these are becoming big, and important for people at this time of the year. My-self personally could not handle studying, and then coming on to MCG I wouldn't have any time. So, mods have done well to contain this, which I commend you guys for :)

Lastly, I think it's not what they thought it would be. You wouldn't think being a staff member would be hard, it's pretty hard. I think most people didn't expect this shock, and they couldn't contain the stress, which would lead to bad grades, not seeing friends, staying up to late.

This is just my opinion. Also I'm not sucking up to the staff team, I'm just sharing my opinion.

Firstly this is nothing. There's been a lot worse situations, where 10 people resigned or something like that in one day. You know nobody can serve this community forever, everybody has a social life. Job of a Moderator isn't just having the rank and that's it, specially when you're a Mod on such a big community as MCGamer. You really need to be dedicated. Now moderators probably resign because there's a ton of new Mods hired, and probably they've been a Mod for a long time, or either they don't want to talk about the exact reason why the resigned. You may never know.

I could not have stated it any better myself. Another reason is the community notices it more and has started to pay closer attention to moderators and when one decides to leave. As Creepah said, there are many reasons as a Mod may wish to resign. From what I have see within the staff team, it is usually due to a lack of motivation or them simply not having enough time anymore. I personally struggle to find a balance between sports, social life and school. I know I am not alone and many other Mods can agree with the struggle with finding a balance.

I have noticed quite a few resignations lately (luckily we managed to snag Spectral_Slayer back to the team 8) ), but this is nothing compared to the spring of 2014. The staff team basically flipped around. A large majority of the mods at the time resigned, and a ton of them were hired. It was in or near this period that people like Lovelights, Linkdude, Pepsi, Hotdog, Hyper, most of the people in that crowd resigned from their positions and tons of new moderators were hired like Scott, PleaseTeamIFan, Arga, MasonD, Tony, MK (I believe he was hired in the spring), and tons more of that group.

People come, people go, the staff team changes and adapts, but no matter what we're always here to help ^.^

It's honestly a coincidence. At some points in time, we don't lose anyone for 2+ months and now we lost 3 (or somewhere around there) people in a week or so. I think those 3 people just were lacking motivation at the same time and resigned.

I feel like something such as this brought on the bout of resignations way back when (Spring, 2014, or so? I haven't a clue.) I think it was close to ten staff members that resigned in a single day. I don't think I saw anything like it anywhere else.

However, while there has been an increase in resignations, I highly doubt any of them pertain to the reasoning you stated above. As everyone else has said, "People come, people go". It really is a natural cycle.

Although we lost a lot of great mods spring 2014, staff team was great from then to the end of summer of 2014. After that...
