Hello hello!
Recently, after browsing these forums for coming up to a year now, I've noticed an increase in the amount of moderators resigning from their positions. Why exactly? Of course, everyone who leaves the team by choice has their reasons, such as lack of motivation, the growing pressure of other commitments such as school and extra-curricular activities or simply for a change, however there are points in time where the amount of resignations increases over a period of time.
My first potential reason of the increase may be a case of simple human nature. The sheep mentality, or the influence of others and their actions on the actions and behaviours of another may be a cause. Before this comes off the wrong way, don't take it offensively. This mentality is part of normal human behaviour. You likely do it with friends and peers at school, where you act the same and follow them because you want to fit in as part of the group. Despite personal reasons being a main cause of the decision to leave the team, other moderators leaving the team could act as a catalyst to leave yourself, especially for those who are on the verge of leaving. This creates a knock-on effect, meaning large groups of moderators may all resign at similar times.
Another possible reason is conditions within the working environment which causes a certain group of people eg. a cliché of mod friends or mods which share similar opinions to leave at similar times, due to being unhappy with something within the staff team. Despite getting on well most of the time, moderators are humans too, and disagreements happen within the staff team which may cause moderators to leave, and normally ends up pretty messy. Situations such as changes to the server and its management may also cause such unhappiness within the working environment.
Why do you think there has been an increase in resignations? Coincidence or one of the reasons above?
PS: Hey, so I was wondering if you guys like these kind of threads. I really enjoy writing them, and it helps improve my forum presence and start some interesting discussion. Tell me what you think, and offer suggestions if you have any. Thanks!
