Hey fellow players! This thread is about: 'Should mods consider factors before banning players?'.

I'm writing this thread to find out what your guys' opinions are for mods banning players without even checking, the factors why it happened e.g. lag. Before you tell me that we are all human and that we all make mistakes, I know :p

Ok, I'm pretty sure you guys have been unfairly/false banned before (just like me), wasn't it quite annoying, as you were falsely accused? In honesty though, I was annoyed, however, I'd rather have mods that actually do ban people than mods who do not (please no flame :3). Anyways, the real question is that should mods consider the factors why maybe the player looked like he had kill aura, aimbot, etc e.g. he was lagging.

I was banned on 3/10/14 (3rd of October 2014), 7pm (BST) for apparently using 'forcefield' (which I didn't): it was a fine Saturday afternoon and suddenly one of my friends told me that GoldEllipse was streaming. I was a big fan of him, therefore, I quickly went to his twitch and started watching. Later on, I joined one of his games and I managed to kill 2 people, causing me to get stacked. After 5 minutes or so, I found Gold at spawn; I asked him if we could do a fair 1v1 but he ignored me and he started shooting me, therefore I fought back by using the bow, which I stopped using because I didn't want him to call me a 'bow spammer', therefore, I started to charging to him, while strafing to my left. I then suddenly, used my rod and started to strafe around him. At this moment in time I was excited; I was 'gg10ing' a respectable pvper and YTer, but my fun didn't last very long.

My friend who told me about his stream, was watching him at the time I was pvping him, (I wasn't watching because I used to have a really bad laptop at the time and it would cause me to lag) told me that Gold was saying stuff about me: "This guy doesn't look legit! This guy definitely doesn't look legit". Because of this, I got kicked soon after he said it. The message said: "Kicked for using forcefield. Ban will come soon." I then got banned 10 minutes after the kick for 7 days. :(

As soon as I got banned I posted a ban dispute in the forum, as I never did what the accusation said about me. I got unbanned 1 day after my dispute.

Anyways if you did read my ban story KUDOS to you! :p So, should mods consider the factors before banning players?

Lag (for the most part) occurs in client side instances. This means, that you might me lagging and the mod may not or vice versa. This means if a mods gets ping lag, then they could see you as hacking. Take for instance, I'm a moderator on an EU server where I get~130 ping. Just because I may lag occasionally, I doesn't mean I'm incapable of doing my job. Besides, if you weren't hacking and you got unbanned, whats the big deal?

/thread.

We trust our mods to take into account other factors like lag before dolling out any punishment, but those variables vary so much that there are bound to be some false positive bans. That's why we have the ban dispute system to factor in those other factors and decide if there's enough evidence to keep someone punished. If the evidence is incriminating enough, then we have our evidence to keep the punishment.

Dunno about you, but this story seems to be one where the ban dispute system brings fairness to an otherwise-unfair situation.

^. Mods do take lag as a factor. They need evidence right? They must show the evidence before banning them so if there are any factors eg.Lag the staff will check it out,
If you are unfairly banned, You can dispute it? also it won't be permanent if you never hacked in the first place

Could you post a legit opinion; If you agree with him, say that and post your side too.

Anyway, I have been in this community for a long time and I have seen a lot of mods get accepted, and demoted. Most moderators have a keen eye and are trained to ask another moderator for help if they need it. Most don't go banning people on sheer assumptions, you possibly could have been banned as it may have seemed like you were hacking. Like every community should have, there is a disputing system where if you feel you have been banned incorrectly, you may post a ban dispute.

To answer you question- I do think that Moderators already look into all the factors and possibilities that may have occurred before punishing a player.

Not really, people can post their opinions, it's a thread that revolves around discussion. What would make it a flame war waiting to happen' is if he said something along the lines of; "I was banned incorrectly and the mods do nothing but assume someone is hacking! This is outrageous, please train your staff to consider all factors before banning someone. This is so stupid"

Therefore this is in no way a flame war waiting to happen, he is asking a question to spark discussion. Which is perfectly fine. :)

If you feel you get unfairly banned, make a ban dispute, our well trained sr. mod will then look at it and decide whenever its lag our hack. We have ban dispute for when you feel a mod made a mistake and wrongly banned you :)

They already take these factors into account as much as they can.
