My leviathan computer is mostly unaffected by this, but it is pretty laggy. Perhaps it's time for a new lobby?

Okay, I came up with a solution. They say there are going to be daily map meetings on teamspeak to discuss maps, on behalf of all supports for this idea, I am going to mention having a new lobby! I'll update you in that :D

I don't think a new lobby will be added.
I understand that it causes some lag, and I'd like that to be fixed, but this lobby is loved.
It is almost the first lobby used in MCSG
Its like the 5th lobby but whatever

i can answer that now chad said this will forever be the sg lobby same as the classic lobby will forever be the classic lobby.

and BTW for the person that said a bout putting a glass dome over a lobby glass domes make lobby's look really really bad.

But, the lobby lags like hell, can they at least reduce it by removing the fences? they make it lag as hell and it doesn't really make the lobby really nice. I'd really love to see other lobbies, the castle one that MCSG had or the one with the underground boat, that will be wonderful :L I really hope Chad's mind will be changed soon :c

Why would the high-end PC's lag? If anything, shouldn't it just make them run even better? Less entities and blocks for the computer to process, and if the computer is high end then they are usually on higher settings, which can include the setting to have the surface of the water changing?
Oh well, it's not my business to go and pester you guys about this stuff.
But, I do have one question. If you compare the amount of people that have a higher-end computer to a lower-end computer, which do you think is more widespread? Surely, lower-end computers are more common..? With that logic, shouldn't MCG be trying to service the majority, which could possibly include taking out the water?

Also: (These numbers aren't exact, just my own guesses based off of my two different computers, one of which is good and one which... isn't.)
Low end PC's FPS without the water: 60
Low end PC's FPS with the water: 20 (Subtracting 40)

If what you said is accurate and removing the water would decrease a high-end PC's FPs, then:
High end PC's FPS without the water: 110+ (Subtracting 40)
High end PC's FPS with the water: 150+

110 FPS is still a lot better than 60, taking into account micro-stuttering and whatnot.
In my eyes, the logical conclusion would be to remove the water. It may inconvenience those with good PC's by perhaps 25% or so performance, but it's still EASILY playable! Whereas for those with a not-so good PC, it can drop their FPS by as much as two-thirds or more, and make it actually difficult to walk around in the Lobby. (seriously, in one area I got 4 FPS on average, making it difficult for me to even type in chat.)

Just a suggestion, but I believe I heard somewhere that barrier blocks were coming out in 1.8? That'd be an easy replacement for a lot of glass.

Also! A little experiment on fences:
I usually play on a very entity sensitive computer. I can get 200 FPS in a simple, low resource-intensive area, but on some maps with a lot of entities I can be dropped to as little as 15 FPS. (It also stops me from recording, because my computer has low processing power or something.) A simple shop in many survival servers with items frames can make me avoid the entire area, purely because of the item frames and other entities which have actually crashed my computer before.
With that in mind, I went into a singleplayer world (Flatworld) and world-edited in 1024 fence blocks. (2 chunks by 2 chunks, or 32x32.) It's not a super-huge number, and my computer can handle me world-editing that number of regular blocks like obsidian or dirt. I closed then re-opened the world, turned around to face the fences, and lo-and-behold, I got low FPS. Facing away from the fences, I got 163 to 328 FPS. (The highest and lowest that I saw on my Fraps fps counter.) Facing TO the fences, I could barely even make the entire 180 degree turn. My highest FPS? 4. It stayed at a steady 2, sometimes rising to 3, and it only hit 4 once. I think it's safe to say that fences can cause more lag than other blocks. On this same computer, I've world-edited in over 5,000 obsidian blocks at once, and been able to function absolutely fine without having to relog. (Factions server admin :3)
Whether or not you remove the fences in the Lobby doesn't really affect me, but I was rather skeptical when you said that fences in no way make people lag.

Also, http://prntscr.com/3xtcya

I don't know how reliable their information is, but it's definitely not the first time I've seen it, and I also have a bit of knowledge that does support it.

The best lobby was the one with the boat underneath. It had fun parkour. I remember I would join lobbies that weren't full just so I could do the parkour. It really isn't my place to say, but I do remember there was a lobby contest a while back, maybe there could be another one?

Why should this lobby be the SG lobby forever? Having minigames with unchanging lobbies should not mean that Survival Games has unchanging lobbies. Survival Games is the big thing. It is the title of this website and it is what 95+% of people come here for. Making sure that people enjoy Survival Games as opposed to the other three minigames should be the #1 priority. If it means changing the lobby, then do it. Believe it or not lag puts people in a really bad mood.

And quite honestly, this lobby is crap in a lot of people's eyes. Especially newcomers. They look up "minecraft hunger games," then click on this site. Then they see the list of servers, and go and find the server pertaining to their region. They type in the correct ip and log in. Boom. A ghetto, super laggy lobby with a bunch of "rule signs" and "pro tips" that aren't actually pro tips. No can do. My 10 seconds of MCSG are up. Bye.

In regards to the comment about glass looking really bad, that wasn't the point. What I meant is that we need a new lobby that does not have fence post borders, or the ugly void for borders. (Void is ghetto.) It should also lack partial blocks. Notice that you get the lowest fps (3 or 4 for me) when looking at the main building in the lobby. That is because of all the trap doors, cakes, stairs, slabs, and possibly glass are difficult to render and light correctly. People who say these things do not cause lag need to take a look at a computer that is not a gaming computer. They really cause lag, a lot of it. The parkour is meaningless when you are gettings under 10 fps.

I'm sure we can change Chad's mind on this. We have before. Could we start a petition?

I remember when they had a lobby competition and the FyreUK lobby won. I would kill for that lobby to be added. They've re-added two previous ones, why not this one?
