okay, it is obvious you all want to spend more money than you need to for a gaming rig on an i5 (Gpu is where you should throw your money) I looked over to the other thread and configured this build within a 1k budget. I saw a keyboard on the one you made but i dont know what you want there so you will need to add it yourself

I have a seagate barracuda in my current computer and i feel it is a great hard drive. It gives you a TB cheap and i have no compaints
as for the motherboard, you may want to find a better one, same with the case it you would like. I just thought a nice motherboard with usb 3.0 and 32 gigs of ram max is not bad and the case is a full tower atx, so it has ample room to work with

An i5 is definitely worth it. And NEVER get an AMD processor. AMD makes great things, but with Intel's new 4th gen processors they don't come nearly as good.

I would recommend i5. i7 isn't worth it for your budget. No one really needs more than i5 K unless your doing some heavy programming or game coding. At least 8gb RAM would be good for you, but with your budget you might be able to go up to 16. I reccomend the G. Skill Ripjaw series.
i7 is for rendering/making videos not really programming/game coding. Programming itself you can do on a crappy laptop, depending on what you are wanting to do to. If its just for websites -> crappy laptop, game designing/cryengine script writing etc -> i5 k with a nice GPU.

For the RAM I recommend the Kingston HyperX 2x4GB @ 1600MHZ, they are nice RAM sticks for a cheap price. And for a GPU, a GTX 660 is nice (I own it) but if you want the latest hardware, then go for the GTX 760.

And AMD aren't that bad, they can make good CPU's and GPU's.

For the HDD, I'd get a hybrid, its a mixture of a SSD and a HDD, a SSHD. You get the same amount of space as an HDD for the same price, but also get the nice feature of the fast SSD.
