I'm no expert on the latest trending PvP and combat tactics, but even news of this interesting little tactic has reached my ears.
How it's done (I think):
If you are lit on fire, it prevents you from being affected by the knock-back from outside sources. (Or at least, greatly reduces the effect.)
This gives the appearance of having an anti-knockback hack or modification, except it is a vanilla feature (or bug) and is not in any way a punishable offense.
If you are set on fire during or before a fight, you will not be (noticeably) affected by knockback during the fight, allowing you to stay in closer proximity to the opponent, which can be used to your advantage with the proper knowledge and skill.
Advantages:
Not affected by sprint-knockback.
Fishing rod effect is reduced or eliminated.
???
Disadvantages:
Sustain a large amount of damage from the fire.
Unable to effectively sprint for the duration of the flame.
Reduced visibility - varies depending on Resource Pack.
Ability to strafe is reduced due to sprinting difficulties.
Obviously, I'm not an expert on this topic, and there is much room for speculation and thinking.
What are your thoughts? Pros and cons that you notice?
And most importantly, is this a viable tactic and in what situations would you use (or not use) it?
