Largoodie's MCSG New-Comers Guide

By: Largoodie

Welcome tribute! As I’m sure you already know, the Survival Games are based upon killing other players in order to stay alive and win the game. In order to be a great MCSG player, you not only have to understand the fundamentals of fighting, but you have to understand the fundamentals of the game. Many people consider themselves “good players”, but what distinguishes the good from the great is their general understanding of the game.

First and foremost:

You need to understand the basic rules of the game. MCSG has their own specific set of rules which can be viewed here:

http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com/threads/mcsg-updated-rules-version-3-0.12254/

Proper understanding and knowledge of these rules will ensure that you do not get into trouble in the future!

Secondly:

FACTS FACTS FACTS FACTS FACTS!!!

In order to be a great player, it is important to know everything you can possibly know about MCSG and Minecraft in general. Here are a list of the basic things you should know before even starting to play the game:

-Each player has a total of 10 hearts. Hearts are used to determine how close you are to dying. If your hearts go down to zero, you will lose the game.

-Hunger is also a very important factor in playing. Each player has a total of 10 hunger bars. These bars are used to determine how hungry you are. If your hunger goes down to zero, you will starve. In order to prevent this, you must eat every so often. Some foods are better than others. Some of the better foods in the game are:
-Cooked Chicken
-Steak
-Golden Carrots
-Cooked Pork
-Cooked Fish
-Baked Potato

Some of the not so good foods in the game are:
-Raw Pork
-Raw Chicken
-Carrots
-Potatoes
-Raw Beef

-A knowledge of all the things you can use to your advantage while playing is very important if you want to become a good player. The basic items you can use are:

-Sword: Used to deal damage in close combat areas
-Bow: Used as a long range weapon
-Fishing Rod: Used to knock players back. Can be used in combination with many other weapons to deliver a “stun”
-Flint and Steel- Used to light other players on fire

-Tier 1 and 2 Chests

-Tier 1:
-These chests are more common and contain goods that are not as powerful as tier two chests. Tier one chests mostly contain weapons, raw food, leather armor, and secondary items.

-Tier 2:
-These chests are less common and contain goods that are powerful and can make the difference in a game. These chests have gold armor, chain armor, iron armor, better weapons, and cooked food.

-Armor is a very important thing that every player MUST HAVE to win the survival games. Currently in MCSG, Iron Armor can be found in tier two chests and is the best armor you can find in a chest. A player with full iron armor will have exactly 7 1/2 armor bars. Leather armor is the worst armor and can be found in tier one chests. A player with full leather armor will have exactly 3 1/2 armor bars. In between leather and iron, we have gold and chain. Gold and chain armor are mostly the same except for the fact that chain armor lasts longer. The ratings for armor goes like this:
-Iron: 7 1/2 bars
-Chain: 5 1/2 bars
-Gold: 5 1/2 bars
-Leather: 3 1/2 bars

Thirdly:

Player vs Player:

-PVP is the main base of MCSG. Without PVP, there is no possible way you can win a game.

The Sword:

-The sword is the most important weapon and is the most used in PVP. The sword is an object used in close range combat and deals the most damage out of all the weapons. The faster you click, the more hits you will get on your opponent. There are 5 different types of sword used in MCSG:
-Wooden: Deals 2 1/2 hearts
-Gold: Deals 2 1/2 hearts
-Stone: Deals 3 hearts
-Iron: 3 1/2 hearts
-Diamond: 4 hearts

-There are many different strategies that can all be used in different situations when it comes to using the sword.

-Strafing:
-Strafing is used to decrease the amounts of hits your opponent can get on you. The main concept of this is moving side to side and around your opponent in a rhythm to confuse them.

-Critical Hits
-A critical hit is achieved when jumping and hitting on the way down from your jump. If executed correctly, it can increase your damage by 150% and can deal massive damage to your opponent.

-Block Hitting:
-Block hitting is used in very confined areas where space is limited. Block hitting can easily determine the outcome of a fight. Block hitting can be achieved by clicking your attack and block button(left and right on the mouse) at the same time. What this does is it blocks your opponents hits while dealing the same amount of damage as a regular hit. While block hitting, your movement speed is slowed significantly so make sure you use it at the right times.

-The Bow and Arrow

-The bow and arrow is a combination of items consisting of- You guessed it!- a bow and arrows! The bow and arrow is used mostly for long range combat but may sometimes be used in short range combat. There are three different levels you can pull back your bow. Each level deals a larger amount of damage to your opponent ranging from one heart to 9 hearts(without armor).

-Critical Hits:
-A critical hit with a bow is achieved by pulling the bow all the way back to the point where it shakes. Once fired, there will be particles that fly with the arrow signifying that you have shot a fully charged arrow. Critical hits with the bow and arrow deal a significantly larger amount of damage than regular charges do.

-Leading:
-Leading is a very important thing to do when using the bow and arrow. Leading is when you aim farther in front of your opponent to compensate for the amount of time it takes the arrow to travel. In order to be a bow master, you must master the concept of leading and guessing where your opponent will go.

-The Bow Spam
-Bow spamming is usually only used when you have a surplus of arrows. The rapid fire of arrows usually does not deal much damage to your opponent, but knocks them back significantly if used successfully.

-The Fishing Rod

-The fishing rod is the most important yet overlooked item in PVP. Many see the fishing rod as an item you use to catch fish but it can actually be the decider between the winner and loser of a fight. Landing the hook on your opponent knocks them back slightly which can create an opening for you to hit them with your sword. The fishing rod can also be used to hit your opponent into objects to stop their sprint.

-The Sword/Rod combo
-Using the sword and rod in synchronization is one of the most useful characteristics of a good player. In order to use the sword/rod combo, you must cast the hook on your opponent while consecutively hitting them with your sword. This combo can be the beginning to some massive combinations that can destroy your opponents without them even landing a hit!

-Defensive Rod Use
-Defensive rod use is very unreliable but if used well can be a game changer for any fight. This skill is mainly used while getting chased. While running away from your opponent, turn around and land the hook on them. This knocks them back slightly and can buy you more time to eat so you can regenerate hearts back. In order to master this, you must be very good at guessing where your opponents next move is.

-Flint and Steel

-The flint and steel is all about tricking your opponent and can be used both offensively and defensively. The flint and steel is an item which you can use to light other players on fire to slow them down and deal them damage. When lighting a player on fire, they will take damage every second and each time they take that damage, their sprint will be stopped. This is very useful while running away from another player.

-Offensive Flint and Steel
-Flint and steel is a very complicated item to be used offensively. You must have very fast hands and a good sense of where your opponent is in order to use this trick. While your opponent is running toward you, switch from your sword to your flint and steel very quickly and place it in front of them. It is imperative that you do not hold the flint and steel because they will know what you are trying to do and not fall for the trick. Once they are on fire, they will be much easier to kill and you will have a serious advantage in the fight.

-Defensive Flint and Steel
-Defensive flint and steel is much easier to use than offensive flint and steel. Defensive flint and steel can be used while getting chased. You can either jump and place the fire behind you(Advanced players only!) or you can turn around and place it. Spamming fire should not be used when doing this. Though it increases the chance that you will catch your opponent, it also wastes all of your charges in one shot.

Fourthly:

Playing Smart:

As good as many are at PVP, they do not play smart which results in a lousy MCSG player. Many of the top players are not PVP gods like many think, but are very smart players that know exactly when to strike a good combo or run away until they are healed. This section will teach you everything you need to know about playing smart.
-I group players into two styles of play:
-Offensive Players: Players who often do not back down while fighting(even if they are low)
-Defensive Players-Players who often do not fight when they should and run away too often.
The best players are usually a mix between offensive players and defensive players

-Note:

-If you are below 7 hearts, I do not recommend fighting somebody. It is best to run away until you are fully healed. Of course, it all depends on how much armor you have and how much better your gear is than them.

-Inventory set up:
-Inventory set up is imperative if you are looking to compete with the top players on the servers. There are many variations of inventory set ups that many of the best players use but it is important to use the one that feels most comfortable to you.

-“Raging”
-I am sure we all know what this section will be about. Everybody does it, even the best players. Raging is not a very good thing to do. Not only does it make you play worse, but it can possibly get you banned from the servers for profanity. If you are going to rage, please make sure you are not raging in chat. Raging can be very insulting to other players. Sometimes, everybody has to rage a little, but make sure to try to keep it to a minimum to ensure a fun time on the servers!

-Teaming
-Everybody teams. No matter how much you may hate it, you have to remember that you team also. Many times, large teams and clans can be too powerful for a solo player to take on. In these situations, you have to remember to play very defensive and to not waste your resources. If you feel you can not win against a team, try teaming with another player in the game to get some help! Remember, if you get killed by a team, you have to remember that you do it too!

Remember that being a great PVPer comes with great practice! You must master all of these topics to compete with many of the top players. Hope to see you at the top!

Sincerely,

Changed the title. This is a good guide, but it was not commissioned nor endorsed by the Sr. Staff or Administration, thus it should not not bear the qualifier "Official" or "Official(ish)".
