Creating Avatars

I wanted to have ago at making myself an avatar, but I need a good software to make it on. Preferable a free software cos im cheap and stuff. Or just wys in which i can make avatars look awesome. thanx

Draw on paper. Works fine.

GIMP is free and is pretty good. I made mine with it.

You get Photoshop Elements free when you buy a Wacom Bamboo tablet.
Or you can use a program called SketchBook Express, but it is VERY simple.
