That's really weird. It almost looks like it's showing the disguise names?

I experienced the same problem today. When I got into DM, the tab list showed more than 3 people.

Same thing happened to me; Six Players in Tab, but says only four people on the right

I don't know 100%, but my first guess would be that it's showing the spectators as well as the participators.

It could potentially be spectators that have left, but as you can see in the screenshot, there are no spectators in that game. I've joined empty lobbies over the past few days with random names in the TAB list.
