I'm 50/50 on this. I like getting alerts, and like to read statuses, but what about people that follow hundreds of people? Complete spam in alert box. :/

EDIT: Just read the option thing to turn it off. I like the idea.

I think this has potential to be a great add to the forums although as people have said it would cause a lot of alerts. An idea to counter this is a bit like Facebook. You would be able to choose maybe 10-15 'Close Friends' who would be the only people you would receive alerts for when they comment on something or post a thread.
