I see that nobody has posted the most legendary 'game' of all time.
Tamagotchi.
I guess it counts. I sucked at Tamagotchi, I always ended up killing them in some way or another.
But if you had a Tamagotchi you were instantly the coolest kid in school.
Like Pokemon cards, there's another subject! Pokemon cards were banned in my school because they made people upset when they lost them in a battle. Not that we knew how to battle...
SO THE POINT IS, did you guys have any games like these when you were younger? That have been forgotten in the Sands of Time....

I still play pokemon online, and if I had the time I'd play competitively.

It got banned in my old school when people have money for pokemon cards.
