Is this idea valid and reasonable?

This is definitely a good idea. I feel like right now, the map committee's opinions often differ from the community's opinions.

I do like the idea although the only flaw I see is the part you said about not having them like sg classic. If we were to test maps to be added to mcsg, I think it would be best to set them up exactly how they would be if added. Some people don't really like sg classic so the gameplay difference due to that set up might lead people to hate the map solely due to no tiering or something similar to that.

However, I really like the idea. I can bring it up in the next map committee meeting :3 The only bad part I see about it is that extra servers would have to be bought.
I am glad you like it, the sg classic thing was just something that was there to make it easier for you guys to add maps to the servers but if you think it is better for the maps to be tiered then that's probably best :)
I see what you mean about the servers but I am sure if you all like the idea enough then there is probably a way to work that one out.

I don't think that they should be open for regulars, I feel like it would make a good donor perk. Let the donors see what's coming soon :)

Well, I would expect moderators to kind of do this b4 submitting maps in the first place.

I think the point of this would be to get the communities opinion on maps, not be a donor perk. If you only allow donors you don't get as good a representation of the community compared to if you allowed everybody. I agree that this would be a cool donor perk, I just don't think that's what Wils is trying to accomplish with this idea.

This idea would also be good for helping remove bugs before the maps were released onto all the servers. If we take boombeard's battle as an example, if testing had happened on that map before it was fully released then the boats at the corn could have been removed and the diamond chestplate could have been removed.

Updated the main post to reflect this new angle.
