Basically, now my final question is: what's the difference? What I know about both 1.6.4 BSM and 1.7 Sprint in a nutshell:

- infinite sprint
- use of two buttons

The only difference I've noticed in 1.7.2 is I can release the 2nd button and still keep sprinting until I hit a collision box. What are the other differences?

I apologize for not clarifying my question:

How can you tell the difference between 1.6.4 BSM and 1.7 BSM/sprint? Is there some sort of serverside command in the MCSG plugin or Bukkit that tells mods which version of Minecraft we're running?
Just a few small corrections -

1. BSM is still disallowed, however moderators can no longer ban for it because the servers do this already.
With the addition of 1.7.2 and its toggle sprint, our wonderful developers have made it so that the servers ban anyone using BSM without any moderator help. This means that if you use BSM, you will get in trouble automatically, using the 1.7 toggle-sprint will not trigger the automated reaction.

Edit:
1.6.4 sprint requires a double tap and running into an obstacle or getting hit will break your sprint and require an additional double tap.

1.7 sprint will allow you to hold down one button and virtually never stop sprinting (I believe there is a timer so that your sprint does break after a long time of continuous use)

On what you said "People who use 1.6.4 on the 1.7.2 servers are choosing to use that, so it is not the fault of players on 1.7.2 for their choice." wouldn't that apply to Optifine users and then apply if we allowed BSM? We cannot force them to install it and right know the game is unfair in all ways as some users have the new sprint, relatively exactly to BSM.
Hmm. I understand where you are coming from. But using BSM is still using a modified client that affects your player's performance, and in the rules it says says that is not allowed. So to go along with the rules that have been set, BSM is still bannable and 1.7 is not as it is not a modified client.

Partially BSM is not the new sprint, but the difference is so relative. The difference is just a button. Just for a button were are making all this drama? Wouldn't it be easy to allow it? Its not cheating as its exactly the same, also mac users have the possibility to make the new sprint exactly as BSM.
Also, not to mention Mojang is not going to fix the "glitch" Mac users have for setting their sprint to caps lock.
It's not the same thing, we have a 40 page discussion on this - http://www.minecraftsurvivalgames.c...has-now-been-eliminated-on-our-servers.68715/

Sorry I didn't see that link. Thanks sub. Knew there was a reason you were my prefered dev. ;)

Edit: Now that my question has been answered, shall it be closed while I electronically leaf through 40 original pages for any further information I require?

I know you have 40+ pages of discussion, yet most of the guys don't know what it truly is.
Have you even tried BSM and 1.7.2 sprint? On mac they feel the same as long as you have caps lock.

Might seem daring of me, but the thing the Hive has you don't is the possibilities to users to install certain mods, like BSM...

Better sprinting mod is not if it made your hitting area larger like Nodus, or it made you sprint 10 times faster, it only makes you automatically sprint exactly as the new sprint, but with the difference of not holding a key rather than pressing it.

You have done Polls on the past, why not do a global poll to make users decide if they want BSM or not.

BSM still has a huge advantage. You're not listenting to what people have said. When you get hit while using BSM you do not stop sprinting. That is a HUGE advantage. However in 1.7.2 when you get hit you WILL stop sprinting. See the difference. May be small in survival, but in pvp which mcsg is, it makes a huge difference.

Not if you have the toggle set to Caps Lock. That makes it virtually the same as BSM, but unbannable. If it isn't set to Caps, then all you have to do is continually hold down your toggle sprint button and you don't stop sprinting. I'd advise reading everything before posting.

So with the implementation of BetterSprinting mod in Minecraft 1.7.2, what happens to all the people who were banned off MCSG for the use of the mod pre-1.7.2?

On one side of the issue, someone could argue that they were using it when it wasn't allowed so their ban stays because they broke a rule.

But on the other side of the spectrum, now that it ISN'T a rule and the word is out, I think those people who did absolutely nothing wrong should -upon request made to an MCSG moderator or higher - have any ban for BSM relinquished.

That way, basically anyone who cares can come back and ask to be unbanned. Anyone, like TheBajanCanadian, who most likely don't care, can just remain elsewhere. In my mind, this is a near-perfect compromise but I would like to hear the staff's current perspective on the matter and what's to be done about it, if anything.

On a sidenote, yes, I know it would be too much to ask to have all of the mods go through and unban everyone over the course of years who used BSM. That's why I suggested a milder option.

((No, this is not for the ban disputes forum. I'm merely opening a discussion on the topic.))
As many people have said, BSM is a very different thing to the 1.7.2 bindable sprint key. And BSM is still very bannable.

1.7.2 introduces a sprint bind key. This is very different to the mod BSM (Better Sprint Mod).

1.7.2:
This update allows players to bind a key to pres or hold down which will make the user sprint. If they press it once it is much like just double tapping 'w'. Yet, if they hold it down, they will continue to sprint even after running into a block.

BSM (Better Sprint Mod):
This mod basically allows you to tap a button once so that your sprint is always on. You do not have to hold one key down to continue to sprint. And, correct me if I am wrong but you are able to run while on fire?

As you can see they are two very different things, and obviously BSM is still a bannable offence. Players will need to either continue to double tap 'w' (Like me) or hold down their bind key. I highly doubt that the staff will allow BSM on MCSG.

Okay, please don't start comparing the Hive and MCSG. Both are equally great in their own respects and I will vomit all over the next person's shoes who argues one side or the other is better in any regard.

My question was answered of if people who had already been banned would remain so, so I think we're done here. Thank you all for any relevant contributions you made. Have a pleasant day. :)
