I think it is more of a block glitching matter. You can quickly place down block on block before they disappear and get into normally unreachable places.

You appear to forget that it is easily possible to reach any place just by crafting some shears, getting multiple stacks of vines which you can place, and climbing up anywhere.

That's a good point, but there are some circumstances where blocks can get to where vines can't. But who knows?

But isn't there a way so you can only pick up wood blocks? Just like with mushrooms and sticks? I mean like Tironas said, a wood sword won't make much of a difference.
