Ok, I think when you crash your boat you should be able to pick up the wood planks. You can make it into a bowl and would be alot better. You couldn't abuse that, because what do you need wood planks for? You couldn't place anything... just my suggestion :D

You could make a weapon. That's why it's not there.

...but really, is making a wooden sword going to dramatically change the outcome of the game? I personally think that this is a suggestion that deserves more attention.

It can. You could get a boat at the start, break it, quickly craft, and kill a ton of people and get stacked with corn loot.

But you can do the same thing with the possibility of someone obtaining a Stone Sword from corn.
There are only two maps that could really abuse this feature, and they both wouldn't have much merit...these two maps being Moonlight Lake and Breeze Island.

Breeze - you swim to cornucopia, obtain a boat, have to travel back and place the boat, by then most people would be close enough to be out of the cornucopia and onto their "chest routes", but you have to swim all the way back and craft the weapon. Most people would be on their chest routes by then, and probably stronger than you are...and since it's Breeze Island, I don't think most players would want to risk breaking their boats.

Moonlight Lake - ^read above. Most people would be finished with the lily parkour, and onto their chest routes. (you cannot break boats on lilypads, from my latest experiences)

I think you could get the planks way back in beta. Not quite sure though. I would love for them to be obtainable nonetheless :)

You could :) The reason this doesn't work is not because of any restriction because of boats in particular, but because of block glitching. You're actually simply restricted from picking up any type of blocks, this can be proven by shearing leaves. You can shear away and the blocks fall but need to be burnt or to despawn. This is to keep people from using block lag to stack upwards to a higher place. Basically being able to pick up blocks would enable for a super OP block glitch (or kind of reverse block glitch.)

Thats true, but... Im not sure if im right... you can still get some other blocks while playing. I remember getting the gravel block several times while on my chest route on SG 2.
It may have been fixed by now but, if not, then it should
