What if depending on which district you start as it gives you a starting item like for 1 they would get diamond boots (luxury items) for two some brick blocks (masonry) district 3 a compass (electronics) district 4 some fish (fishing) district 5 some something power related (power) district 6 a minecart and some tracks (transportation) district 7 some planks (wood) district 8 half blocks(textiles) district 9 some wheat (grain) district 10 a spawn chicken egg (livestock) district 11 a apple (agriculture) and district 12 some coal and sticks (coal mining)

change that diamond boots to gold

No, crappy idea. One of the districts would indefinitely have the best item and it wouldn't be fair for the rest. The cornucopia gives everyone a fair chance, and don't double post, just edit the original.

Just to point this out, the Survival Games are not trying to stay true to the books/films. Also, do you not think it would be a bit unfair if one person something useful such as a pair of golden boots or some food, whilst others receive a chicken egg or a minecart? I don't think this system would be very fair, and seems to be an unnecessary addition.

I think it would be fair gold boot aren't that good halve a armour and can only take 92 points of damage a spawn chicken egg can be used for food minecart and tracks could be used as a get away if you have a base of operations

1. No, that's not fair at all. Gold armor, wether it be boots or chestplate, is still better than getting stuck with a minecarrt.
2. There are no Minecart tracks

I personally like the way it is set up now. The tokens could be cool, but it would just be imbalanced in the end.

This is so unfair it's amazing that you would bother to say it (not trying to be mean, just saying). Read the front page next time. It doesn't need to be exactly like the hunger games, but I like the idea. Maybe if everyone got some sort of block it would be fair (they could show it to show their district) and they wouldn't be able to place the block or use it in crafting. They would be able to drop it if they wanted though.

It being unfair would also depend on what type of person gets a certain item
like some people run off away from the center and if they had the boots depending on how much knowledge they had of map would be practicably useless

It would still be unfair in the long run, because that's a good item. I agree, but either way, eventually they will become skilled players if they stick to it and being in district 1 will always be better.
